mysis shrimp taking over my tank?

I think that I have and infestation of mysis shrimp in my tank. When I look at my tank with a flash light I see hundreds of very fast swimming what I think might be mysis shrimp the biggest ones are orange in color and maybe the size of a new born guppy.Any thoughts?

if you have any fish in there im sure they would be gone in a couple of minutes

I have two clowns a six line wrasse and a lawnmower blenny.the wrasse does eat them I have seen him in fast pursuit but their are allot of them they are every where at night. A picture will be hard at night in macro zoom.

An "infestation" of mysis shrimp? I consider it more of a "i dont have to pay as much on food" situation. 'More = good' in most situations regarding mysis (and copepods).

Well if they dont do any harm yes, but im just not sure if this many is good.do you think a dragonet would eat them?

They're actually mysids (mysis) are freshwater.

I had them all over my frag tank and managed to collect some for food.

Yes That is them. What will eat them I have hundreds!

I think a Mandarin would eat them. That's what I would get. If not then a nice wrasse.

got one! this is in a drop of water to keep it still. Can anyone ID it as mysids shrimp ?

Looks like it to me. I wouldn't be worried about it. That is an excellent "problem" to have. Most people wish for that situation.

I've had that happen to me before. I just happend to do some night viewing with a flashlight one night and was surprised I had so many swimming in my display. I've always seen them in my fuge, but never in my DT. In any case, I only saw it that one time and have yet have that occur again.

yes thats mysid. they use to always be in my hang on overlow box and sump. almost ANY fish will eat them. they are nocturnal and dart for cover the instant they detect a presence or light when there is shelter available probably making it easier said than done in the display with liverock. in the sump or areas of no cover they just circle around confused on what to do.

OK, I have had those things for years in my tank and thought they were a type of copepod! I am very surprised that they are mysids. That means I have isopods, tigerpods, copepods, amphipods and mysids everywhere!

Do you think there would be a market in selling/trading these things since they multply by the thousands in my tank?

Sorry I just think it's awesome. Wish I could get the occasional peppermint hatchlings to live more than day.

For sure there is a market, but good luck keeping such a high population up and being able to separate the babies ect.

For seahorses, seadragons, baby cuttlefish and other finicky eithers there is no better food.

To keep my baby cuttlefish alive I've been buying live mysid for the past several weeks and spent several hundred dollars.
