Do you have a refugium? How long has your tank been up?
I think a mandarin in a 50g would need a refugium to provide enough 'pods long-term. You might get lucky and find one that takes prepared foods, but many never do, and they need enough 'pods to sustain them from the system. I'd only put a mandarin in an established tank, preferribly with a decent refugium. They're very cool fish though. |

No refugium. DSB only. After reading your post I checked into this more. Thanks for the heads up, I think it would be a mistake to get a goby at this point. This brings up another question. Are the pods appropriate for a DSB only tank? Also I hope some has a suggestion on the snails. I have an old Whisper power filter that I could probably use as a refuge for the pods, but it is small and I don't think it would support any algae. I use it for carbon filtration and to move some water.

Thinking of trying a Fiji specific tank in a 125 gallon (well its more like 100 according to dimensions) tank w/ a quasi 'fuge (in the back) and about 150lbs of Fiji LR (reef safe also). Your thoughts on the below:
- Coral Beauty Angelfish(Centropyge bispinosus) 4" - Single - Six Line Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus hexataenia) 3" - Single - Christmas Wrasse (Halichoeres cf. cosmetes) 5" - Single - Tomato Clownfish (Amphiprion frenatus) 5" - Pair - Spotted Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera) 3" - Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) - Single - Blue/Green Reef Chromis (Chromis viridis) 3" - Shoal of 8 - Neon Damselfish (Pomacentrus alleni) 2.5" - Single - Zebra Barred Dartfish (Ptereleotris zebra) 4" - Single - Sleeper Gold Head Goby (Valencienna strigata) 4" - Single Coral plans are mostly softies...Not sure about which inverts are habitats of Fiji though... |

If you take out the regal tang and add the 4 chromies in its place then you should have plenty for the 55 gal

If you have a dsb you might get a few pods but they will be quickly consumed. This is the idea of the refugium--it gives a protected place for the pods so they can grow and multiply and you the reefer can control how fast they are being introduced back into the tank. The use of cheato macro alge in a refugium not only provides cover for the pods but it does a great job at reducing nitrates and phosphates at the same time.

So you might want to look into some screening to prevent the wrasses from carpet surfing To Reef Central Here is a blog on coverings: http://www.reefcentral.com/wp/?p=317

Blennie Help
I have an oscillaris clown, a royal gramma, a cleaner shrimp, a feather duster and 2 nassarius snails. Is there a remote possibility that a bicolor blennie will work in my tank? Thank you!

Great thread! I finally read through the whole thing!
The contents of my current tank will soon move to a 75RR and I will have the option of keeping the old tank running as well. I'm overwhelmed trying to narrow down what to do for fish in the new tank, as right now I have only a handful of chromis (not that they need to move, but they are schooling for me), a derasa clam that will definitely move, and a CUC that includes a variety of snails and dwarf zebra hermits. In the past I designed all my tanks around mandarins because they're my favorite. I think I'd like to do the same with the 75 but I'm also toying with the idea of skipping the mandarin this time and doing an all-damsel tank. Any feedback or ideas would be helpful. If I do the mandarin option, which one(s) of these will work? anthias (if so which kind and how many?) chromis (how many?) copperband butterfly purple basslet (or royal gramma) mandy flame hawk ywg & pistol shrimp If I do the all-damsel option, which one(s) of these will work? chromis (how many?) yellowtail blue jewel velvet domino 3-stripe yellow or orchid dottyback (will either one work?) pink Smith's |

I've got a 90g that was setup in June that currently has 2 Onyx Clowns, 1 Potters Angel, 1 Blood Fire Shrimp, 4 Peppermint Shrimp, 6 Nassarius and 6 Margarita Snails. Oh, and 2 Green Reef Chromis in QT. Is my tank big enough to add some anthias (maybe lyretail)?

I'm thinking of adding a school of bartlett's anthias and/or blue green chromis to my mixed reef pentagon 180 w/30 gallon fuge.
The tank equipment includes a PM Bullet 2 Skimmer, 3000 gph closed loop, Vortech pump and a 950 GPH return through a 1" Sea Swirl. Currently I have 170# live rock and the following livestock: 1 x 4" blue jaw trigger 1 x 3" flame angel 1 x 4" purple tang 1 x 5" Christmas wrasse 1 x 4" Lined wrasse My question is how many bartletts and/or blue green chromis can or should I add. I really want a good sized (8-10 fish) school. Thanks

HI all
I have a 95G tank 40*23,6*23,6, Have about 70lbs of LR, DSB, Cheato and a Reefocto extreme 200 recirc rated for a 400G tank. My current fish list is: 1*jumping bean 1*midas blenny 1*orchid dottyback 2*chromis I want to add another 3 chromis and 5 lyretail antias. Would that be an ok stocking list or is it too much bearing in mind the crazy sized skimmer? Oy yes tank is also BB |

Any thoughts on a sleeper blue dot goby? Saw one while swimming in Zanzibar and thought it would be nice to get one (I've wanted a goby for a while, seeing one was just the impetus).
I have a 90g with 3 yellow tail damsels, 1 yellow tang, 1 sixline wrasse and two ocellaris clowns.
