Well. The 90 is out of the garage and in the house. I need a smaller sofa. Or a bigger house.

Sump is in, skimmer in place, sock, and return pump. Programmed the programmable power strip for the lights. Now, to add water............

Tomorrow.

Thinking of doing a water change in my 30, which hasn't been done since March. Then using that water along with the new mix and a rock out of it too. And the stuff out of then 10g. Think that will aid in the cycling process?

Then I'll transfer everything from the 30 when things test okay. Sound like a plan?

Hamburger helper is on the menu here too Capn'. Along with some roast that was cooked in the crockpot all day.

Good news. My homeowners insurance, auto insurance and property taxes will be dropping, while the value of my home will be climbing. All with out selling or moving. Apparently their going to be redrawing county line which will put us in orange county. Upper scale community than L.A. county. Seal Beach instead of Long Beach. Will be going from upper middle class to almost poverty level of the city of Seal Beach. You're considered low income if you make 60 grand or less in Seal Beach. I make just above that. My wife makes double what I do. So we might fit in. We already have access to their better schools because of location.

We live in a neighborhood on the other side of two bridges which prevents any utilities from reaching our tract. So we pay a surcharge for them seeing they come from another city and county.

We're not the only one. College park West is only accessable through Long Beach in LA county via a bridge as well. Wacky.

the rock from the 30 gal will definetly help cycle the new tank but I wouldn't worry about the water nor would I worry about doing a water change in it at this point.

I wasn't going to do a water change to maintain the 30 perse'. Really just to get some of it's water to help cycle the 90 faster.

So are you saying just make some water and toss everything in? Just throw the fish in a bucket til I git r' dun.

Hamburger who? Coors what?

No thanks. Thats not real food, it's kind of like ASW.

Give me something that was swimming. My hippo tang is looking mighty good, I will have to get some oysters to go along with it.

My taxes never went down. That is amazing.

I tried raw oysters for the first time last week. I was pleasantly surprised. Not at all the slimy goo that I was expecting all these years. Got some fresh Mahi while at the beach last week as well. Tuna nori, crab salad, fresh mussels, lobster tail, snow crab clusters, fresh shrimp. Yum!

Before everyone thinks I am a heart attack in progress I am really joking I don't drink Coors Light
I eat salmon and tuna 3 or 4 times a week for lunch and I love Lake Erie perch done on the barbeque.

Re my orange/red bubble tip anemone. I had the anemone for 6 months, same spot, consistent water parameters. Overnight it has turned to a really florescent pink colour--quite nice actually.

Any reasons why?

Are your eyes bloodshot? Maybe it tinted your vision

By the way Capn canned tuna don't count.

I had a nice flood today in my workshop. I thought it came from all the plumbing I have disconnected due to my installing a new boiler but it came from my auto tank fill. I have a 5 gallon bucket hanging from my ceiling which stores RO water for the tank. The electric valve failed to shut off fully and it overflowed. The overflow hose in it also failed as the bucket was tilted just slightly enough so the water ran over the rim rather than go out the overflow.
Much of the water ran into my local NY tank causing that to overflow. The crabs and snails didn't seem to notice that the water was almost fresh. That overflowed into a tool drawer which was filled with electronic tools like laser levels, laser rullers and amprobes, 4 of them. They were floating but they are drying out. I doubt they will work. I am retired so who cares?
Then the drawer fell apart because it is made of particle board which becomes a sponge and collapses.
I dried it all out with a de humidifer.
I took the electric valve apart and repaired it. I also re designed the overflow.

My tank is also 90 degrees tonight. A little tooo high so I added 3 gallons of ice which brought it down to about 87.
My fan that blows across the surface croaked last year and I forgot to add another one. Hopefully I will have time for that tomorrow, but I doubt it.
Now it's back to boiler installation.

Domino effect with the water eh Paul? Bummer. Seem to be taking it in stride. Wish I could be so. That trait skipped my family. Irish and Italian, hot heads.

Well, water is in but can't dial in the drain and return even though I marked the plumbing before taking it apart to move it. So I sat there and stared at it. Gave it the evil eye............It didn't change.

So hopefully it will fix itself while I'm at work tomorrow. Some reason the water level in the sump is about 3/4" higher now. Hmmm......

I'm not hot headed at all, I am all Sicilian and we are known as such even tempered people

I am having problems this year because my Mother n Law has severe Rhumatoid Arthritis which destroys all of your joints so she is always in severs pain and I spend most of my time taking her to Dr's and Hospitals. My wife works, but she also has MS so between the two of them I am about to blow my head off.
I have all of my plumbing taken apart to install the boiler which hangs on the wall. If I could get 2 full days to work on it I would almost finish.
I think I need to go back to work so I could get a day off.

I also may lose all of my fish If I don't take some time to cool off my tank but my front tooth is loose and I need to get to the dentist today. It's really an implant so it doesn't hurt or anything.
Actually my animals look better than they ever did. I guess they open more in the heat, they think they are tanning on the beach in Cabo
I want to see if I have a fan to install to blow across the water surface. I always had one and it lowers the temp about 1 degree. My last one rusted badly, it would put a nice coating of rust on the water when it went on. The corals loved it as I never had to dose iron
The tank has been in this place for 30 years and I never air conditioned the space so I guess all will be well, and if it isn't,
Oh Well.

I'm really sorry to hear this Paul--but if anyone can handle a flood and temperature spike you can.
What temperature does your tank normally run at.

BTW
what's wrong with Tuna--its packed in fish oil--which I use

Capn, thats make believe tuna like Cat food. You need to see some fins and a tail when you eat real tuna. Eat tuna like a man, Raw.

My tank runs at about 86 degrees in the summer. Now it is just about 90 and I have 3 gallons of ice in there.
They are just going to have to get over it as I am busy these few days. I will make it up to them with some extra worms

They will forgive me.

Wow, and here I just read that corals world wide are dying because the ocean temps have risen 0.02 degrees.

what's wrong with cat food---I'll bet you ate worse in Nam

4 degrees is not that bad of a fluctuation although it is on the high end of "recommended" fish tolerances---which I am sure you would dispute. So I am hoping your fish will be okay

I had the same problem with this biocube installation. Had to use icecubes and a fan to keep the temp down in the garage of the last few days

Here is the build thread

Yeah, during some hot weather earlier this year I set my lights to come on at 4am so they'd be on when the house was cooler. that kept my temp a lot more stable, but I only got to enjoy the tank during breakfast.

I would not know. You need a pH test kit for that and mine came in a wooden box when Nixon was President.

Actually I ate mostly C Rations in Nam. Kind of like canned tuna that was put in a can before you were born

Canned tuna is good. In water though, drained, and on a Triscuit or some other chip with a cold one.

Seen a new Somatella in my tank. Light colored one and growing fast. Had only the black one for the longest time. Are these self propogating? I know, plant term, but it works.

Paul, you ate Cennel Rations? That's dog food isn't it?

My wife is off to France this evening (with her Parents and our kids - yippee) so I'll be living off canned tuna for the next 11 days till I fly over :-)

Yes it was exactly like dog food and it was put in the can during the Korean War.

My daughter went to France last week, when my wife goes away, I go to great restaurants.

I just installed a fan over my water surface. As I said the old fan turned into rust and looked like it came from the Titanic.
This fan (like the older one) has exposed blades and I will cut my fingers off every time I stick my hands near the tank but these are the things we do for our fish.
I am not hoping to make ice bergs in the tank, I am looking for maybe a half to one degree of cooling. I use ice filled two gallon containers for an additional 2 degrees.
That gives me about 87 degrees. I know it's still too hot but it has always been that temp so it is what it is.

and affect on the corals and inverts noticable.

I lost a 65 dollar brain coral last night in the biocube---the anemone decided it didn't like all the attention is was getting in the restaurant and took a hike right over it---I new I should have put a fresh water tank in there

No, they don't seem to be smiling as much but as I said the temp always goes that high in the summer. I installed a fan and increased the circulation by directing the powerheads to the top of the water surface and the temp went down to about 86 which surprised me. My old fan never lowered the temp that much.
It is so cool in there now that I saw a chicken with a capon

You can just about make out his smile here
