I did have a Yellow Tang in my temporary setup for a few months. However, I felt that it was getting rather large, and never transferred it to my current tank. Personally, I believe people tend to overreact regarding how many fish, and which types of fish are suitable for which systems. To answer the question though... Do I believe a tang could be housed successfully in a tank like mine? Yes. Quote:
However, the easiest way is usually just to remove the anemone and rock it is attached on. In my case the rock was about the size of a softball, and had corals growing on it. So removing it was not an option. Quote:
![]() I'm bummed I had to remove it. Pictures didn't do it justice, it absolutely glowed... but it's the smartest move at this point. I already had to relocate a few corals that it had stung, and it was getting extremely close to stinging a few others. I'm not sure what I'm going to put in it's place now though.

i know a few local refers that use an ice cube. If you apply an ice cube near the anemone it will start to close move it closer to the foot or even touch the foot and it will let got instantly. Hope this helps

Well, two weeks later and I read the whole 40g tank build thread! Interesting stuff. Thanks everyone for all the sharing. Will continue to follow this. Also read the 90g thread a few months ago. There's nothing like real world action to learn from.
Thanks again!

Some of my corals are beginning to grow dangerously close to another. My White Acro and Blue Digi actually were trying to nuke each other yesterday. So I figured it was time to do a little pruning in the tank. After I trimmed everything up. I decided to make a small magnetic frag rack so my sandbed wasn't littered with frag plugs. I'll probably take the time to make a black one to replace it, but I needed something quick.
![]() ![]() Also, I performed the 2nd round of the Interceptor treatment last night. Then changed out the carbon, and reconnected the skimmer's air intake this afternoon.

Some new Palythoas. Pyro's Envy. They should brighten up a good bit more once they settle into my system. They orange already glows, but the blue centers are a bit faded right now.

![]() This is my second bout with Red Bugs. So I think I'm going to need to figure out someway to get an Interceptor dip/short QT period into my acclimation procedure.

On the inside, I use acrylic safe sponges/pads, and a Kent plastic scraper for coraline or stubborn areas.
On the outside, I use microfiber cloths and Novus cleaning products.

Haha... Yeah it's always nerve racking when working around it or cleaning it. There are a few scratches here and there but nothing really noticeable. I'll never stick a magnet cleaner in the tank though!

Thanks.
Nope, my VorTech has been working great since I sent it in shortly after I purchased it. I switched it out of wave (short pulse) mode, and now run it in ReefCrest mode as well. I can understand why you would be frustrated. I know people who have never had problems with them, and love them... and also people who had nothing but problems with them, and refuse to even talk about them. Hopefully yours will come back with the problem resolved

Just a little FYI. Lately I've been reading everything I can on Vodka dosing and it's benefits... and am liking what I'm reading. Once I finish off the Interceptor, and get my tank pest free. I'm hoping to make up some DIY fish food, start dosing AA's, and give it a shot (no pun intended) for a while. Some people were posting amazing results just 2 months in.
Here's the Reefkeeping article: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...nftt/index.php

One for me, one for the tank.
Wonder if there are any merits to dosing Jack Daniels...

![]() Yeah, I'll probably have to explain why there's a bottle of vodka next to the tank. That way when my parent's have guests over they'll be able to defend themselves, and people won't assume having their 26yr old son move back home has driven them to the bottle. btw... I don't think I mentioned it, but I'm diggin the new avatar. ![]()

![]() Spent a couple hours getting the 20 gallon long QT (ex frag tank) back in shape again which included: pulling out all the old sand; hooking up a clamp on work light; replacing filter sponges & carbon in the HOB filter; and performing about an 80% water change.

big... BIG problems tonight. My AC3 has a mind of it's own lately. I got a call from my mother that one of the tank lights were still on way after they were set to go off. So I told her to manually turn it off at the ballast, and figured the controller kicked into a "Unknown" state... which happens from time to time on my light status for some reason. Anyway, I'm getting ready to hit the sack, and decided to check on the tank status. The stats were not displaying on the head unit, so I unplugged the unit, and plugged it back in. The tank was sitting at 86 degrees!!! Upon further investigation, both heaters were still hot and on!!!
I had to manually unplug everything to be safe. I have no idea what the deal is. Now I can't even log into my controller. This is just the latest in a series of glitches I have been noticing with my AC3. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1684426

![]() Glad you caught it in time. Do you have a fan blowing on the tank for now? Or floating some frozen water bottles in the sump? You might add an airstone for a bit to increase the oxygen level in the tank for the next hour or two. |

Yeah, I have a couple of fans blowing on the tank. It's down to 84 degrees now. I'm just extremely frustrated. My entire tank is tied to that controller, if it goes down... the tank is (and almost was) toast.
I guess I'm going to have to start getting some degree of separation with my equipment to prevent a total loss if the AC3 would fail... and I don't have much faith in it these days. Thinking off hand, I can order Ranco Temp Controller for the heaters... etc.. etc... but that defeats the purpose of buying the AC3 in the first place IMO.
