ich experiences
Just curious, to all that have gone through a bad ich outbreak how long did it take for your fish to completely rid itself of the ich and what did you do to help? Basically just share your experience with ich.

My blue tangs get ich at the drop of a hat. It seems to have come and go 3-4 times over 8 years. Right now they are getting over another bout after I added 3 anthias. The tangs are 9-10" (with teeth) and they fret over the anthias. Whatever.
Anyway, I add selcon to the nori I feed daily and that seems to help get them over it. I'm about ready to form a new theory about ich. Some ask, is it always in the water? I'm asking, is it always in the fish? HTH Ed

About a year ago I had an ich problem. I used Hyposalinity as treatment. I first removed all the fish from the display tank and then put them in a QT which I dropped the salinity to 1.009 over the 3 days and kept it at that salinity for 10 weeks. After the treatment I then raised the salinty back to 1.025 over 7 days. During this time the diplay tank being without fish caused the ich cycle to die since ich needs a host to breed and without fish it cannot survive. Since this time my tank has been healthy and disease free for over a year.
