New fish for my fish list
Ok so i was talking with Jacob today about what fish im going to put in my tank. Right now i have a couple that are on the top of my list. They are the Flame Angel and a Mystery Wrasse. I was looking on Blue Zoo Aquatics and i think i found another winner. Im going to do some more research on it also. Its the Centropyge Venustus.

The paracentropyges are all really attractive. I have never kept any but have kicked around the idea of the venustus as well as multifasciata. It sounded to me that the concensus on them (all) is they can be tough to feed. They also get pretty big as small angels go.
Maybe you can score a P. boylei... or how about one possibly even harder to find... one of these hybrids! http://glassbox-design.com/2008/rare...us-x-venustus/ What do you think about bellus angels? Just wondering.

Ive also been kicking the multifasciata around for a couple years. Im not sure what the P. boylei costs but i bet its out of my price range. LOL. Beautiful specimen though!

Well, if you try the venustus and have success I might try a multifasciata sometime down the road

I didn't see your reply about the Bellus angels. I like their body shape but I want something with more color.

C. potteri is also a pretty one, especially the males, but also somewhat fragile. There is an awesome all blue morph but thats another one we'll have to dream about.
I don't think you or I will ever be lucky enough to have a shot at P. boylei (oldschool rare, I'd bet if one was collected $10k USD+), any of the paracentropyge hybrids or the blue potters, but that one might be the most feasible of them ![]()

A 16 y/o kid owns it that one, his grandfather purchased it for him. Even with a couple of grand in your pocket you can't get one unless another happens to show up, and since this is the first ever... I doubt it
![]() For close to that money you can get wild C. interruptus, and if RCT opens up again (rumor is sometime in 2010) you can can get some captive raised interruptus... that would be the ticket! I don't know if you remember Maximus from the bay area... he had a PAIR of RCT interruptus ![]()

Centropyge collini is an uncommon/rare pygmy that can be had for decent money and is also very pretty. I haven't seen one for sale in a while, but I'm thinking ~ $200 ...not too bad.

Yup i remember maximus' interruptus. Those were sweet! Im going to try and limit myself to the $200 range. Im still open to suggestions so keep em coming! I figure im not going to purchase a nice, expensive or rare fish for a while still.

Jeff, I'm with you on the $80. There are so many beautiful fish I'd love to have but have a limit on what I'd spend and most of it is hinged on my comfort level on what I can keep alive
![]() Maybe in 20 years when I've been there, done that enough ![]()

If people put as much effort into the husbandry of their fish as they do their corals I think they would quickly realize that fish are much easier to care for and have success with compared to many corals.
The only thing the cost has to do with is whether or not you can afford it (whether it's a fish or a new stereo etc...). The money spent is easily forgotten once I set my eyes on my new fish and begin to take care of them. I have never regretted purchasing a fish from a monetary standpoint, and when I watch them swimming around my tank the cost of them never occurs to me. If you look at your fish or corals and see dollar signs, you really should find another hobby ![]() I think too many people set imaginary price boundaries on fish because they look at fish as a gamble due to less than the best fish husbandry on their part (whether knowingly or not). Unfortunately fish get less attention in a reef more often than they deserve. The most important thing is doing homework on every purchase - husbandry starts before the money crosses the counter no matter how much or little a fish costs. Some of the fish we're talking about here are on the touchy side, same goes for putting multiple centropyges in the same tank, but those should be a calculated risks (I say should be because we should have done our homework and understand the risk) and that's really a different topic when it comes to price. Now... everyone who just read this should be starting your fish fund. Put a little away so when the opportunity arises you are ready to pull the trigger and don't have to ask the boss if it's ok to dip into savings ![]()

Well said Jake. That's exactly why I'm planning now on what "centerpiece" fish I want.
