Because of the humidity here in NY this week I can't get one MH light on in my tank. The GFI keeps tripping. I need to go out on my boat so I threw a flashlight into the tank. The corals have to fend for themselves until I get back.

Humidity is up here in Ca. today too. Feels good like Hawaii, not quite Texas.

I did a water test today for something to do this while looking at my tank with lights off this morning. First test since I set it up a few weeks ago. Algae is coming in nice and my two tangs are looking fat and healthy.

I got the humidity down from 95 to 50. It cost a lot in electricity but I can now turn on the lights and cut the vines growing from the ceiling. I really don't like de-humidifers because they eliminate moisture and make heat, a lot of it. It is 90 something degrees here and this thing makes it much hotter.
But Hey, it's dry.

But it will be a great boating day. I will bring a net as usual and collect some pods and what not but in two weeks I am going back to the south shore to get some more blue claw crabs for dinner and hopefully some lookdowns which I probably will not eat (unless I get hungry on the way home)
The last time I went collecting I spilled a lot of saltwater in the back of my car. I have a nice car and not a piece of junk so it bothered me. There was also a lot of grass shrimp in the water. The next day those shrimp made their presence knows. Those little clear non descript shrimp stink like hell when they croak, especially if you have enough of them. I thought I cleaned all of them out but apparently a few got away. I took out the seats and shampooed the carpets.

With carrying alot of salt water etc for clients now I find I need to leave the trunk open for a few hours after I have cleaned up--that really helps. Its not so much shrimp like you but bacteria in some used water, the python etc etc.
But, yes I had to shampoo my wife's car once when I used it---she has the better car for transporting stuff with the hatch back.

Wish I was able to post pictures. My little Blue Tang found himself a nice big barnicle to sleep in since I moved some things around. Until then he would find a place that just his face would fit in looking like an Ostrich with his head in the sand.

Emerald crab came up dead. I think I may have smashed him. Want me to send it to you Paul for an appitizer?

Sounds delicious but I just came back from boating and am full of oysters and clams already so you can just send it to WK to feed the creatures in his DSB

I'm back from Holidays and no, nothing died. Sweet. In fact, even the baby mollies have grown in the fuge. I have a strange love for them, I like them more than any other fish in my tank, and they cost €0.00 :-)

Corals look good too, they have all grown and or coloured up.
Next year I'm taking a three week holiday, or maybe 4...?

The automagic systems were a kalkwasser jobby (Tunze calcium dispensor) connected to my flawless Tunze ATO. And an automagic feeder. Everything really looked well when I came in the door. Mind you I couldn't see in the front glass through the coraline growth!

I was thinking of you (Paul) when snorkling in the Mediteranean sea, I was looking around for pods everywhere, but they are impossible to find. I did find huge shoals of "tang like" fish, no idea what they were though as I couldn't catch them. I gathered some sea grasses and other algae for my fuge, but couldn't bring them on the plane. Damn stupid air rules....
Next year I'm buying a harpoon at the start of the holiday, as one weeks fishing with it would pay for it! I was litterally swimming with my dinner...

Lastly :
Sunfish caught off Donegal coast.

The Mediteranian is too clean to collect pods, I tried also.
You really need a nice muddy beach which are lacking in the Mediteranian. Thats a good thing if you just want to swim though.
I tried to rent a boat there to sail around Sicily but it would have been cheaper to buy one

Almost no one there has a decent boat and if they do, they are American. They are not big on boating and if you go there a day after beach season, you will not find one person on the beach in all of Europe. It's like the water just dries up and goes somewhere else.
You will not even find a person on the beach wakling a dog, reading a newspaper, nothing. It's wierd.
I can go to Coney Island beach in a snow storm and find people there running, playing, reading a book, collecting pods, something

I was in Saint Tropez mostly (think Cannes & Monaco), and you wanna see the boats there. OMG, all owned by the rich and super rich. Sure a mooring costs €1million per year in some parts! Tons of boats bigger than my house and gardens combined. Crazy money. I was looking at apartment / villa prices and comparing them to boat prices, yes it is well cheaper to buy a house than a boat!

I only saw one American boat though, most were French or Dutch flagged. It's obviously different in Sicily -- I've never been, bit too hot for me. The Cote d'Azur daily temps were 26C at 8am, 30C at midday, and anything up to 36C at 5PM. The water temp in the Med was the same as our reefs -- 24C to 26C, I'm sure it's cooler further out to sea.

As for the beaches, well they reminded me of Sardines in a can.
I didn't mind as I don't do the sunbathing thing, I just snorkled all day long with my kids. Then drank fine wines all night with the catch of the day. The more I swam the more I questioned why we worry about temp swings. I noticed sudden drops in temp in small distances, meters like. I don't know if I shall bother heating the next water change... The fish and corals must be used to it from nature.

I'm off to Tenerife in October for holiday 2.0. Looking forward to snorkling in the Atlantic this time round. I'll check for pods and report back :-)

Watched a show not that long ago about a Culpera taking over the Mediteranian. The scientists were blaming some Oceanography museum there somewhere for dumping it in the waters.

Dominican Republic was the same way with water temps. Even when snorkling in Hawaii. Be nice and comforable one second and burr cold the next. Like someone just dumped ice water on you.

It is illegal to even have Caulerpa in Ca. for the same reason.

It was Caulerpa taxifolia adjacent to the Monaco Aquarium.

If they outlaw algae, only outlaws will have algae.

That's the spirit and when guests come over you show them your aquatic greenhouse and botanical garden.

I didn't see that calurpa where I was, but I did see tons of native algaes, the sea grasses were cool, but I only saw them in one location.

The last place (a few km's down the road) had what looked like bubble caulerpa. Nowhere did algaes take over any areas, and I was chatting to a local who said due to lower pollution levels, there are far less algaes (and urchins) than when he was a kid.

I suspect they ate all the urchins, or is that just the Italians that eat them..? Betcha it was the French, as they eat litterally anythng that moves, and make it taste good too. :-)

It was you Paul wasn't it? Hungry *&%"£$ :-)

In the past I have had people think I had a lettuce farm.
The animals were the healthiest then

The algae will disappear leaving a perfectly healthy tank. Be a man, love algae.

I appear to have lost and anthias---I had the pair of them for almost 4 years. Saturday they were both doing fine--lots of colour activity and feeding on the mysis shrimp.
This is the first fish I have lost in a couple of years---strange

Any thoughts?

These mysterious fish disapearances are annoying, aren't they? I always look on the floor first to see if they went carpet surfing.

I had a lawnmower blenny go missing on me a couple of weeks ago. He looked healthy and was eating well then one day he was gone. There was no sign of him on the floor or area surrounding the tank. Guess the CUC cleaned him up.

On another note, I haven't seen the bumblebees in a few days. They're so small and could be anywhere (including someone's stomach)
