I was able to get spa flex at Lowes. Do you have a Lowes or Home Depot out your way? Although I'm not sure if Home Depot carries it, I don't have one in my neck of the woods.

Loos great Again I am going to stress what Gary sad the only thing I see as an issue is no front access. I have an in wall and trust me everything is a pain if there isnt one. for instance you know when that coral falls and you need to pick it up. since the back is painted black you cant see it not to mention doing your rock stack and putting the corals in to begin with. Just some advice but I would seriously think about it. you wont regret it

If you were going to have front access would want to make doors say like 10x12 or something like that, you could make them match you wood work in your room or you could make one big one that swings up and locks so you have full access from the front it would be so much easier for you to do any in tank stuff

I dont believe that your pump attaches to the it looks like the screen for an overflow.

Shawna, just put the sponge over it and you'll be fine!

lol I may be wrong pictured below is the sump (bad pic) on the lower right hand side the black piece actually is on the inside of the acrylic and then a bulkhead. I am thinking the pump has to attach to the bulkhead somehow right?

The mag pumps usually come with a sponge that fits over that plastic piece you showed in the picture. If you dont have any critters or chaeto in the return area you really don't even need to worry about it.

Even if the mag is being used as an external?

Shawna, your mag drive CAN be used internally or externally. If your sump was to designed to run an external pump there should be a fitting that the pump will thread on to.

Thanks Henry,
Yes my sump is drilled with one threaded bulkhead for pump, I believe.
TimmyNy is going to come down soon,Depending on his schedule maybe Sunday? and help out with the plumbing.
Of this whole build I'm most worried about the plumbing lol

exactly.
That's why you have baffles in a sump- to prevent critters or chaeto from entering the pump intake area.
Personally, I wouldn't use the intake screen or any sponge on the intake side of your pump. Never restrict a pump intake.
JMO2: the beauty of a Mag/Supreme pump is their ability to be submersed. Just because there's a bulkhead doesn't mean you have to use it.

imo an external mag drive pump would be more of a hassle than just plugging the sump bulkhead up and running the pump internally.

just out of curiousity why is it a hassle to run externally?
I would think cleaning a sponge every few days to a week would be more of a hassle?

Thanks Gary,
How do I plug it? what are the pros and cons of inline or submerged?
No sponge or screen on the intake scares me,is that how yours is set up? have you ever had a problem?

Thanks again

home repair stores sell a cap that will screw into the bulkhead to seal it. Make sure to use plumbers tape and don't glue the bulkhead shut in case you choose to use an external pump in the future.
No sponge or screen on any of my pump intakes. Baffles.

1) submersed is quieter
2) easier plumbing, less elbows is less pressure drop
