do sea hares hide?
I just bought a pretty decent sized sea hare 4". It was in my tank one day and now I can' t find it. Will they crawl under the sand or rocks? I hope it turns up soon, or it was $15 down the drain or in the skimmer.

Mine always ended up crawling through the overflow and getting shredded. Needless to say, no sea hares in my tank

I lost one after a few days, never figured out what happened to it.
Shredded is my guess, sorry. |

I don't think that you can shred a sea hare without realizing it. They release a ton of ink when damaged and you will definitely see the effect in your tank (i.e., your water will be light black).
Sea hares can be impressively hard to spot on your rocks. Basically, they look like a piece of rock. |

Not all sea hares can ink.
No sea slug should be put into a tank with exposed powerheads, intakes, filters, etc. Not only do many sea hares look a lot like the rock, sand, and macro algae that they are found on, at least one will burrow under the sand. |

I had one that got shredded in a powerhead, no ink that I could tell. Mine would sometimes bury itself in the sand during the day sometimes

I borrowed one for a short time. It looked so much like live rock, I could be looking right at it and not see it.

Yes...mine burrows in the sand. It's nocturnal.
