Always better to get it from where the bio-load is highest. Has anyone figured out whether the "proteins" are boyant?

I doesn't matter. For molecules in this size range, even minute flow will not allow sedimentation, or the opposite in our case, creaming.
I thought bio load referred to living things. G1 |

I feel that my display has more protiens in it than my sump does because of the bio load that is housed in it. All the uneaten food and feces are in the display. As the water overflows, it is filtered. So the sump only recieves water that has seen some sort of filtering. In my mind that makes the overflow the richest source of skimmable material. Dale |

Dale,
There is no logical arguement against that. I am working on my water change system this weekend!

Not a new thread of course but certainly an interesting one as most of us use skimmers and perhaps it could do IMO with some updates as there are now so many newer types of skimmers on the market using different methods and different impellers and even different venturi (e.g the Mazzei ones), including the patented Beckett one ... just saying ... and FWIW

Hello all:
I'm needing a skimmer for a new larger tank, and could use some experienced information on their design and use. Thanks > Barry
