Here are some pictures of my CS 8-2's running in my 40 gal sump.
They have the gate valve mods installed. The skimmer to the left is about a days worth of skimmate and the one on the right is about two days skimmate. I run them very wet. As you can see I dont let junk accumalate in the neck of the skimmer.

Yes. I just added the second one and they just happen to be on seperate schedules. However, the one on the left should pull out a little more because the sedra pump that feeds it is in a small 5 gall jug where the overflow dumps. So it gets concentrate from the main tank. The one on the right gets whats left.

I've got a CS 6-1 with the sedra 3500.
Has anyone done the Recirculating mod's on these?
Does it make a difference?

Has anyone used the Gen X 2400 (600gph) needle wheel pumps with these skimmers?

Jumping in here, does anyone know the best (cheapest) place to get an SP4 pump? I have an 8-2 and want to upgrade the pump to SP4.

So, How the heck are you supposed to get a part for these skimmers?

I have ordered from H2O because after several emails to ER over two days, they finally told me to go there. Two days since my order was placed and NO response fro H20. No confirmation, not shipped, but the account shows the order has been placed.

What do I need to do, other than buy a back up skimmer? Are they always so SSLLOOWW?

PS the part I need was the impeller shaft I dropped and shattered-- no fault of ER in any way.

Four days and counting and the part has not shipped. This is not acceptable to me. My livestock depends on a responsive customer service.

I would first open a new thread and post this on EuroReef's forum here on RC http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumd...s=&forumid=322 of instead of the Lighting and Filtration forum. EuroReef frequents that board to answer questions. You might want to try to PM EuroReef too. Just read through some threads on that board and find their RC handle and send a PM.

JFish, with the SP4 being new, I think you'll probably have to get it directly from ER/H2O. Check with premium aquatics first though, they have a lot of ER parts, but I don't know if the newer stuff is up.

goldeneye, try calling ER directly. Emails are easy to get buried in a loaded inbox, I've had better luck on the phone with a warranty issue.

I just did the same thing and so far it hasn't made a noticable difference. It's been running for 4.5 days now and has not pulled any more skimmate than before. We'll see if things start kicking in though.

Wow! My 8-2doesn't skim anywhere near that much and I have the SP4 pump. Do you skim really wet? How high do you have the water level in the neck?

I run my water higher than that and don't get hardly any skimmate.

I don't know then. The 8-2 seems to work well for some and not for others. How often do you adjust it to try to get it to skim? I found that the more I messed with it the less it skimmed.

CamBarr,

You don't need to get all sch 80 parts. My gv mod consist of a 1.5 gate vale, 1.5 pvc pipe that you get from HD or Lowes. Total cost was $15.00 for the gv, $2.00 for 4' of 1.5 pvc pipe, and $3.00 at the most for the tee and 90 elbow. All sch 40.

It all depends on how much waste you have in your system. If your system isn't has heavily stocked as his, then you won't have as much skimmate.
