yes or no, is 3 150watt MH lights enough for a 22in tank?
a simple yes or no. i plan on keeping LPS, some softies, eventually a clam or 2, and maybe SPS.

1 mh every 2 feet is normal. How deep is the question though. 150 MH wont get very deep.

I would go for 400 watt MH (that is what I have on my 90 gallon) or at least 250 watt as a minimium.

That is plenty of light for the softies and most of the lps, but you would probably want to stay away from the really light-hungry sps

Keep the SPS at the top, LPS in the middle, and softies at the bottom and it should be just fine. I use a 150W on 1/3 of my 22" deep tank and with corals organized as such it's been great -- with a household fan instead of a chiller keeping things at 78 degrees.
Or, you can burn 1200 watts per hour and a chiller if you want to grow SPS in the sand.

400w in a 22 in deep tank? Are you insane?
I burn everything in my 24" deep tank with my 250s. Keep your water clean and you wouldnt need so much light.

I have 3 250w SE bulbs on a 7" tank and its bright enough. I mean you can see the house a mile away because its so bright. Plus some actinics and your good to go. I do like them i must say and the price is about the same, The power bill isnt. Get electronic ballasts.
Yes

You really could get away with 2x250 SEs in Lumenarc A3 reflectors.

no
I have seen a 150 de on a grow out tank, and the light is nothing compared to 250's IMO, you'd be happier with 250's and save the hassle of getting new ballast's later

150s are fine. 250s are fine. 400s are definitely overkill. Look at GregM779s tank...3x 150w halides.
