Thumbs up pics of caulerpa racemosa going sexual

im not sure how good the pics are cuz i havent looked at them yet, but i just pulled every last bit of caulerpa racemosa out of my fuge cuz its going sexual.....it grew from nothing in the tank, i didnt buy it. it all grew at once in the span of a week or so, and has been in the fuge for about three weeks now. if the pics arent blurry, you can see that the entire alga is turning clear, which is bad news

so im assuming that its going sexual because its turning clear. it could be turning clear because its been buried under ten tons of dictyota and halimeada, but i dont think its the latter......

let me respond.
the problem hear is that going sexual and die off can be 2 different things. macro going sexual is charecterized by it turning white but so is die off. the difference is you water will turn cloudy with a sexual reaction. if your water isnt very very cloudy then this is die off...not sexual situation. die off is slow and not an over night thing. in other words sexual reaction ussualyy effects the entire plant so that it is all dead in a short period like over night. die off is slow and not total plant die off but enough to cause a slow total loss. but not nearly as bad as a plant going sexual.

yes reefD thanks for the botany lesson. or would that be bio? anyways, im going to have to lean towards die off then, cuz as you suggested with the sexual effects, there was no cloudiness, and this has been happening over the period of a weeek or so.

so what did we learn today people? very good, a white plant doesnt always mean its getting laid.......
