It is rediculous. Must have been worst day of the year, weather-wise.
I had the A/C looked over today to make sure all is well. While the guy was here, I sweet-talked him into helping me pull out the window A/C in the fishroom so I could clean it out of all the accumulated salt that has been eating away at the unit. Now it is nice and clean again, but I have a feeling it won't last until next year. Still, to be able to keep the 280g reef & fishroom cool for the past 1.75 years with a $140 a/c was well worth it. |

Nice.
Does your window AC the only thing keeping the fish room sold or does your whole house unit suplement the fish room.

No, the fishroom is temperature controlled by the window A/C. It is an 8,000 BTU unit, and I keep it at 78F. The tank fluctuates from 79 to 81.5 daily (or less).
During the winter months, I don't run the a/c at all. I'll crack open the door to the garage to let cold air leak into the room to keep the lighting from heating the room too much. Since I work out of my home, I can check the thermostat each time I pass the tank to see if any adjustments are necessary, but as we head into the summer heat, the a/c will simply stay on around the clock, cycling on and off as necessary. |

I just finished reading this thread from the start, and I just have to say great job Marc.
I was kind of hoping there would be a prize for reaching the end (maybe it's in the mail ![]() I don't have a reef tank (YET) - just a hi-tech planted freshwater 75g (and who says that freshwater is cheap/easy?) , but this monster thread certainly has given me some ideas for when I take the plunge in to saltwater. I am a little bit dissapointed that after all this time that the woodwork hasn't been done yet. Just kidding ![]() Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sharing your life/reef (same thing, right?) with the world. Rob. |

Hi Rob, and congratulations for taking on the task of reading this monster thread. You do realize that makes you a little nuts, right?
![]() and.... ![]() To Reef Central Woodwork. If I did that, the thread would be done and no-one would care to read further. I look at it as a major market teaser. "Coming soon - woodwork!" ![]() And you did get your prize, btw. You have a head full of information that you can use now for your own piece of the reef. Instead of guessing and wondering what to do, you'll be ahead of the rest of the pack. Hopefully you'll set up a diary thread about your tank soon, so we can follow along. ![]() |

I'm just on my way out to a P.A.E.W.M.T.F.T.F.W meeting and thought I would try one last ditch effort to convince you to finish the woodwork before I leave.
I know you would be very pleased and I'm sure we could find something else to bug you about. ![]() C'mon now I must say it is very satisfying to finish the woodwork finally. Sometimes I just sit and look at it for hours in awe (well seconds), I think it's more that I'm amazed I actually finished it. ![]() Oh yeah, the best part about it being finished...No stray light. that really browns me off! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

FYI, I just updated my personal logs on my site, and it mentions woodwork.
![]() I tested the reef's water yesterday, and had some pretty good numbers over all. Somehow I seem to have LOST a new Salifert Nitrate kit, which I know I had. The results were so strange that I doubted the numbers and posted to Habib in the Salifert forum a few months ago. I don't know where the test kit went, and they aren't exactly easy to lose. Guess I'll need to pick up a new one again. Here's something interesting: My Calcium Reactor's effluent was coming out at 1.0ppm a couple of weeks ago, so last week I opened up the lid, poured in 1/3 of a bottle of Phosbuster Pro, closed it up and restarted the pump. A week later, the effluent is testing .03 or less. ![]() Tip of the Day: Frilly mushrooms do not like to be removed from rockwork. |

Please don't start wood work! That would begin a countdown to the number of days I have to finish mine. I prefer not knowing how long I have until I have to make cabinet door and new wood pieces! I don't feel pressured that way

So your effluent had Phosphate in it, is that normal?
