xm 15000k bulbs

Has any one used these bulbs with any success. The problem i am having is they are causing a big out break of dinoflagettes, that didn't happen until i changed bulbs.

As far as know people love the color, the bulbs just have reduced PAR. I doubt the 15k bulbs would be responsible for dino, but something like a 6700k might possibly cause that.

If 6700k bulbs caused Dinos, there'd be nothing but dinoflagelates in teh ocean.

Nutrients are the issue here, although getting your ALK high will help.

The light setup i am useing is two 175 watt xm 15000 k, two 110 vho's actencis on a 55 gallon reef tank. they are approx 8 to 9 inchs from the water, The water test are , nitrate 0, amm 0 ph 8.2 alk 9-10 phos 0.1 temp 79-80.Before these lights i had one 250 watt 20,000 k.I had no problems with this stuff. Reason for changing lights was i didn;t have enough light for the tank.

I was not suggesting that 6700k bulbs cause dino, I was trying to say that changing from a 20k to a 15k is shifting more toward the white side, which algea prefer over a 20k.

Hey these lights are really put out a white color, I really don't like the color at all. They came with the setup, i need to trade these for some 20k.I have cut back on my light cycle to where they only run for about 2 hrs a day.
