Pepermint angel as well as another very ugly fish full of spines would cost around 10K each.
If I don't find the pics will have to take pics of both o Reason why is that they are fond so deep which is risky for collectors also those fish need like 24 hours to be taken out to water surface after they are caught as they have to be properly decompressed. Will post pics of them if I manage to find them back in my pics collection if not will take pics of both of them in my tank again ![]() Just kidding. As to why people would buy such expensive things well it's just human nature of wanting the rare and non avalable to everyone. A flame angel is more beautifull than the pepermint yet how many pepermints have any of us seen in real life? |

I personaly do not care how rare a fish is. I like a fish for what it is not for how many there are. It just doesnt make sense buying something that costs 3-4 times what it should cost just because less people have them. That marinecenter site is way over priced. I think its funny how they say "if you see this fish buy it right away". They are trying real hard to sell these things.

My most expensive fish are my 2 lineatus wrasse - one was $120 and the other was $150. I bought them because I think they are beautiful and wanted them.
Funny, a lot of people would think nothing of buying a rare coral for $200 just because it is rare. ![]() Crystal

I have always thought the yellow tang was the most striking of the tangs, but so plentiful. Imagine if it were rare, people would line up to pay $400 for one. Look at the gem tang, cool fish but not really very pretty. I always try to think of what someone uninitiated would think of a fish. Remember when you first started how cool the damsels looked? Its funny that you have to be a fish geek to appreciate the black tang or gem.....Its nice there are many very nice looking fish in the generic section of the LFS.

Most expensive purchased? Quite a few in the $200 range. We just bought a pair of C. semilarvatus at $300. Most expensive fish I ever saw, offered for sale, in person? Probably a Clarion Angel that was going for over $5k. Although, I have heard of fishes going for more.

I think one of the best looking fish is a Powder blue tang. And they are under $100. Also the emperor angel is beautiful! There are lots of great looking fish available for under $100. The flame angel is also one of the best looking fish an its about $35-$40. I really love my $3.99 green chromis!!!!

I have also purchased a few fish that were in the 100-200 range and I didn't buy them because they were expensive or rare but because I thought they were amazing looking. Some of the higher priced fish are ugly IMO but there is always going to be someone to shell out the cash for them. |

Most expensive fish I ever bought was a navarchus angel for $140. Had it for many years in a FO tank. Worth every penny. Most expensive fish I've ever personally seen with my own eyes was an asfur angel for $800 back when all red sea fish were VERY expensive.
I remember clarions when they were obtainable and affordable. I wouldn't even have spent that much on one back then, IMO.

It all depends on where you get your fish from and who you know. I spent $70 on my helfrichi firefish and 100 on my mysteri wrasse, I got the hook on on both. I am going to get a regal angel which my local store told me would be 250 but I will get it from somewhere else for 80. I was told by another friend who ownes a store that he could do me a favor and probably get me a goldflake angel at 130ish. probably wholesale price. a 3 ft blacktip reef sark is an hour away at 1500 which is ok. multicolor angel I passed on at 70 on saturday.

Phishy Business often has fish in the $1000+ range, and they've got a great rep for high quality fish and coral. They also have $20 firefish ($150 if you want the Helfrichi variety) and I've bought $10 frags from them at swaps -- they don't play the "mark it way up and some noob will buy it" game.

Most expensive fish I have owned are probably the goldflake and chrysurus. I have a buddy who has a conspic, you can sometimes get them from Quality Marine (if you have access to wholesale) for $700. I am in Tucson (about 40 minutes from Mexico) and have heard of Clarion juveniles for $4000. They are getting more expensive as Border security increases. They are often passed off as passer angels, so I hear.

crosshatch triggers are very beautfiful fish. I think 400$ for a male isn't a bad price at all for retail. I think the marine center want 1000$ for a pair, which is the most ridicluous thing i've heard. lol I've had about 2 dozen crosshatches in the past 5 months. Very easy to come by for me since my friend catches them
![]() I know for a fact i can get any fish in the pacific for less then the wholesalers charge in LA. ![]() |

A buddy of mine who has a shop was guessing 130 and he could be off by 20 or so. I will ask him. I dont remember who he had been buying through. sea-dwelling or someone else.

If the purple scorpion fish eats the Japanese pygmy angel, is the scorpion then worth $2400?
