Best protien Skimmer fot a 58G reef?

It's been about 5 years since I left the hobby, then the craze in skimmers was venturi's and downdraft's. I had an ETSS 1400 on a 360G tank, I'm looking to re-enter the hobby, with a 58G. What do ya'll suggest as far a skimmers go? Brands/Models?

If you are on a budget i would go with a seaclone 150, they do not have that good of reputation but i have one on my 75 and it pulls out thick and nasty stuff. You can get them for like 100 bucks.

I say go with Precision Marine, as they are not known widely, but are very good high-quality skimmers. They offer a smaller version called the HOT-1 that you do not need a sump for as it hangs on the back of the tank. Pulls out great scum!

I STRONGLY dissagree. No offense but if you had any other skimmer you would know that seaclones dont compare. If you are on a budget then a ASM G2 or Octopus NW100 is great. If you are looking for the best of the best check out Deltec AP600, Euro-Reefs, or H&S Skimmers. Right now recirculating needlewheels are all the craze. Downdrafts are not energy efficient and are loud but do work well.

Forget the seaclown and go with a Coralife super skimmer. Here is the thread about them.

The Octopus NW are the best bang for the $ out there. For a 58G, the NW110 for $100 cant be beat.

Thank you all for your input. I do not want to hang this on the tank, I was planning on installing it outside of the sump in the cabinet. My plan as of right now is to Y off of the return pump to feed the skimmer, and have the discharge from it flow into a fuge, which gravity feeds back into the sump.

Cost is not a huge issue, but the Deltec is a little much. I like the Octopus, Euro-reef, and ASM. I was also looking at the Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000, they claim that the feed from the tank to the sump can feed this skimmer, has anyone done this? With what results? Also, with the NW skimmers, is the pump with the NW just there to circulate the water in the skimmer? Or does it supply the water to it?

If you want external, the ASM wont work. I'd look at the Octopus recirc 110 or 150.
