sailfin that doesnt stop eating
My sailfin is about 3 inches and growing rapidly due to his eating habbits. He eats seaweed clips that he loves and also eats frozen brine shrimp. He eats more than enough and he grows so fast is ridiculous. I went to bed last night and fed him right before i went to bed cause hes always fallowing me through the glass for more food even though he looks like hes gonna explode. And when i woke up in the morning, HE HAD SLAUGHTERED MY MUSHROOMS AND ATE ALL 10. I was ****ed and i am most likely going to get rid of him since he is nipping at the feather duster. IS THIS NORMAL FOR SAILFINS? ARE ALL TANGS LIKE THIS BECAUSE THIS IS MY FIRST TANG? If there are tangs that dont harm mushrooms and other creatures please post a list.
I know most of you are going to say its cause im not feeding him enough and hes hungry. Thats bu11 sh17 cause I feed this fish about 4-5 times a day and he gets more than enough food. Is this sailfin just insane? |

i hate to say it, but if this fish is now eating unnatural items (like corals), it is not getting enough to eat. feed it more. have you tried nori?

Try gracilaria. I buy mine by the pound on ebay from exoticaquaticsandpets and my sailfin loves it. We go through 2lbs a month.
And yes, sailfins are notoriously ever hungry. Mines never touched a coral though, and actually, it saved a gorgonian from algal encroachment. |

Mine eats like a pig too, and grows "a vue d'oeil"! But so far so good, he never touched corals. But I had an A. achille that constantly picked my big sarcophyton

My Yel Tang eats all day long and I feed frozen brine shrimp, mysis along with lettuce, nori, dry pellets--Kent Platinum Reef Herbivore and New Life Spectrum Marine Formula.

wow, i have a ton of tangs they have never touched a thing. Yes all tangs would eat all day. They are highly active fish and their metabolism is high. In the wild these fish are like hyper active child. All they do is swim and graze on algea. So a fish that is a herbivore and has a high metabolism will do nothing but swim and eat. They dont eat meat until they come into our aquariums. But make sure and feed him his greens.

Put some lettuce on a clip and tie some nori sheet on a piece of rubble with rubber band in the morning and at night. I put a little extra when I go away on the weekend.

My sailfin is... A MONSTERIOUS PIG! Twice... that he ate too much... he almost died...literally. He ate too much that he was breathing really hard and swimming slowly near the rock. I was really worried b/c he was like that for like 10 mins. Then all of the sudden, he "choked" and spit out 5 or 6 pellets and got better.
