Icecap 250MH wont fire 'XM' bulb?

I was looking at the data for the Icecap 250 Watt metal halide balist on Marinedepot. It says it will fire any bulb except for the 'XM' brand bulb. Does any one have experience with this combination? This is the combination that i was wanting to use but i guess i might have to select a different bulb now.

does the balast hum or buzz when you turn it on? If it does ,its not the ballast. Ice caps will try to fire the bulb for a certain amount of time and then shut down, but you can retry in a few minutes. It could be the bulb. Do you have an old bulb to try? I went through the same thing you are going through , I actually got a bad ballast the first time out , Ice Cap made it right. And Ive had bulb problems as well . also check to make sure your ground is secure good luck

The currently sold Icecap ballasts will fire any bulb. I am running XM on my 250 ballast with zero problems.

Rich are you using the double ended XM bulbs ? I've heard that some people had problems with the double ended bulbs, the mulgul base bulbs are firing up just fine though

Yeah, I have DEs.

That being said, you shouldnt be using Eballasts on DEs anyways.

Why would you say shouldn't? It might not be the "best" way to run DE's but I woudln't go so far as to say shouldn't

I dont have the ballast. i was reading about the different ballast that they carried and that one said will fire any bulb other than the 'XM' brand bulb. i was wanting to be sure before i purchased. Is it possible they are selling the old style ballast and that is why they still have that on the site?
