anyone hear of "sand sifter" shrimp

I am not "new" to the hobby, but have just started up my second tank. The first was a 210 gallon reef tank that I was a little too aggressive with the razor and busted the seam....making my living room look like the Mirage water fountain in Vegas. Nonetheless, I'm at it again. MY QUESTION: I just brought home two "sand sifter" shrimp. Does anyone have any info on them? There BIG and so far fairly docile, but I'm looking for specifics...any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

never heard of them, and a quick google search had no hits for sand sifting shrimp.

Yeah, the LFS in town ordered like five of them and kept one in their 210 reef, didn't appear to bother anything, I only ever really saw them when the lights were out.
They are big.

Yup; I believe they are Carribbean, though I dont remember the proper name of them. They dig.. a Lot.. and will kick up large clouds of debis and sand. They are also very jumpy- its amazing how far they jump.. little torpedos.

They do seem to be peaceful, though I wouldnt be surprised if they picked at corals if they didnt have enough food in the substrate. Ive never had a problem with them bothering fish.

I used to collect them from the gulf years ago. Like Hormigaquatica said they are very skiddish and jump like crazy. I could never keep them long term because of this. Mine were quite active at night and remained buried most of the day.

yeah i saw a couple in the LFS today and they look exactly like bait shrimp...except alot more expensive if you buy it in a Fish Store

there were some at my work in w/peppermint shrimps. as i put the sand sifters in the tank, they all jumped right on a peppermint and started eating away.
