Crosshatch changes from Female to Male?

I've had a female crosshatch in my tank for about 2 months now. When I first got her she was definitaley a female.

Now here is the same fish 2 months later:

I'm wanting to put in a partner for the fish of the opposing sex so I just want to be clear that she did infact turn into a He

Also from the little research I've done I havn't read anywhere that they do this.

I believe the same thing happened to someone else but I cant locate it but in this case the person thought it was a hybrid but it was eventually settled that it was infact a female turning into a male. It seems that your female was already starting to change when you go her, females have a red outlining on their top and bottom (fins they use to swim with for lack of a better word) and yours are yellow, the male coloration.

I actully got it for free from a buddy that I helped tear down his tank. He's had it for about 2 years along with 2 other crosshatches. 1 male and 2 females. I'm wondering if that played a role in him changing since he is by himself now. thanks for the link

crosshatches will turn to male in nature when the harem needs another male. So your female by itself probably figured there needed to be a male. lol Fish change sex all the time in home aquariums, so there is no surprised that a crosshatch wouldn't do it also. Congrats! you now have a much nicer crosshatch

Your fish is already starting to change in the first picture - the first sign is the yellow edges on the dorsal/anal fins.

Thats cool... Not only a more colorful fish but I'm sure the price went up on her a little as well since Males are a little more expensive to buy then females from what I've seen. So now the hunt for a female...

I also think that you had a juvi male in the first picture. In any case, it is a sweet fish.
