Live rock turning white???

is it supposed to do that? its like sections of the rock almost looked bleached out! there are jsut 8 turbo snails, and 7 hermits crabs in there, plus a lawnmower blenny that eat algea? is it normal for the rock to do that, or is my rock truly bad. help me out if you can, and if is just part of the process feel free to kick me nutts for panicking!!!

It's normal and often happens with coraline when exposed to different conditions and more intense light. It's especially common on newly imported rock.

yeah unfortunately coraline doesn't thrive in super bright light... and you are right, the algae turning white is a sign of die-off of the coraline

Temperatures above 84.9 degrees can do it, particularly in strong light.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The algae will return.

I swear this entire hobby is about controlling algae.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I just changed over to MH lamps from PCs and my rocks are all bleached right now. They are slowly starting to colour up again though. It's normal.

You could get some "Purple Up" if you wanted to add some more.

I haven't used it, but I've seen several posts from people who like it.
