Talking New tank!

Picked up a 46gallon bow front with stand used for $100. It was painted witha cheap brown latex paint but it washed off fairly easy with water revealing a beautiful black finish. the tank it self has a few scratches in the bottom sections but they don't look too bad, the flash makes them look alot worse and most of what you see is from the back glass not being cleaned yet. Can't wait to set it up! any one else have a 46 gallon? if so whats it stocked with?

ive got a 46 gallon bow front as well unfortunatly for me it cost me almost 4 times the amount you paid lol. Any way ive got a neon green carpet anenome, Many softies including a huge green sinularia, lybophtym, some candy cane coral and some gsp, and the brown/pink star polys as well...i also have a blue linckia, Clown fish, yellow watchman gobie, and a blue damsel. My most recent edition is a coral banded shrimp. A couple of years ago i had a bunch more fish in there but an outbreak of ich devastated the tank.

You are so lucky! I have been searching every where for one about the same size for my 7 year old that wants to do his own saltwater (he wants to be able to tell me what fish he wants! ), but used aquariums are hard to come by here.

happy tanking. It's going to be alot of fun.

I hope you really wash that tank out really good if your using windex right now to clean it. I use a mix of viniger and water. It works really good and won't leave chemi's behind.

Thanks guys! I just cleaned the outside with windex. About what are the fish stocking limits with a 46?

Not good to good to use Windex or other chemicals on/in a fish tank, what is better water/vintager solution with newspaper (makes glass crystal clear.

I would say about 3-5 small fishes. Thats with a really good skimmer and or lots of water changes. Now if your running a FO tank then you can get away with a little dirtier water.

Nice tank. Hey, pssst. I clean the outside of my glass with Windex too. LOL.

I have one just like this that is sitting empty. I am going to make is a FOWLR one of these days. I think you can get away with more than 3-5 small fish in your 46. You will just have to check levels and see how much bio-load your individual tank will stand. I have a pair of pink skunk clowns, a bicolor blenny, and a watchman goby in my 24gal (unskimmed) and my nitrates stay at less then 5 (salifert) which is fine with me for that tank. I am religious about doing frequent water changes though. Every tank is different bio-load wise so just see how it is going and add from there. Bear in mind that you could have a lot more little fish than bigger fish. \

Congrats and good luck!
