The Ks produce a wide flow which is not overly powerful in any one spot. Your shrooms will probably be OK with this. Give them a little time to adjust or reposition the powerheads till everyone is happy.

Sounds good. I think I will go with a couple of the 850's facing each other from opposite ends of the tank. Sound good?

I was told the new stock should be in during the week of April 5th, so I'd figure a few days after that should be back on store shelves. I should be getting my K4 from them this week and I'll let you all know how that is in my 55.

I just bought #4s for my 75 and I think its a bit too much flow. They are great because they are much more compact than my seios were and I can't wait to see the difference in heat since they draw way less power. I probably could have used 3's in there, but the 4's hadn't been recalled so I got them.

Anyone notice an improvement in tank temp after switching from Seios?

Update for everyone. Today, I came home to a nice box on my doorstep, opened it up and sure enough Hydor delivered on their word and sent me a K4 upgrade for sending in my K2 on the voluntary recall. I put it in my tank and plugged it in, wow, the K4 has MUCH more flow than the K2. It has so much flow, I'm probably going to have to rearrange a few of my LPS like my Torch and Frogspawn, or maybe I'll just move the K4. So to the person that was thinking about putting a K4 into a 29 gallon, forget it, unless you want a whirlpool. The good thing is the K4's flow pattern is very dispersed and I'm sure it'll work well in my 55 once I find the sweet spot. On another note, I hooked up my skimmer tonight and it was blowing all of the stuff off my bare bottom tank and putting it into the water column where it can be sucked into my sump and into my skimmer, so on that note it's working perfectly. A little fine tuning over the weekend and I should be golden.

I just put 2 #1's in my 25 gallon and they work great! Much better flow than the other powerheads I was using. For $28/ea you can't go wrong. I ordered mine from marineandreef.com I believe they are out of stock though.

Here is the response from Hydor about using these with a wavemaker.

Hello William,

The Koralia was not tested for use with wave makers. We have seen posts where many people have used them with these types of controllers. We recognize the need people have for wanting to change the flow of our Koralia pumps, so we are working on different pumps and a control just for this reason. The only issue you could have is the rattle you get when the pumps is first turned on. I can not say what would happen to the pump motor if the type of controller you have only lowers the power to the pump to slow the flow.

You are welcome to give it a try. The only Item I must caution you on is if the pump is damaged by the use of a wave maker, then it would not be covered under the warranty.

Very happy with the Hydor powerheads. I have two 4s on my 90 gal. and will be getting a #3 soon. I have had them for over a month now, less power, heat and headache compared to sios.

I bought my 2 k3's when DrsF&S first started selling them and they've been working great. At first I had them on the back of my 75 gallon pointing towards the front glass at an angle. They created a lot of great flow, too much infact and blew my sand the sand off the bottom of my tank. These are great powerheads with a good dispersed flow. They pic stuff off the sandbed and keep the surface agitated so you don't get any scum.

Spiny Lobster, I don't know if you've been following this or the other Koralia threads, but there was a recall on both the K2 and the K3 (which you have). Hydor's customer service has been outstanding. I highly suggest you send yours in for the replacement. If you need their number, pm me and I'll send it to you. The 2nd generation K2's and K3's are scheduled to be in the country next week.

I just set up 4) k1 in my 180 flow is good they are on a octopus timer system. I read this thread and I have noticed a lot of people using huge flow rates is this your primary flow? I move about 800 ga from my return pump and I use the k1 in pares meaning 2 are on at all times not necessarily the same 2 that is about 1600 gal a hour how much more flow do you need?

I have 2 of the 4,a on my 180 & 2 more on order just waiting for delivery. Im very happy with these pumps & at the selling price I will have 4 hk4s for less money than 1 tunzee would cost.
