PPFD is an actual measurment of PAR. Like the ruler being PAR and inches being PPFD. Yes these bulbs have a HIGHER PAR value than most 250's when driven with an electronic ballast and have about the same PAR value as 250's on a Magnetic ballast. My good friend has 250 watt DE pheonix 14k on an electronic ballast and mine are Brighter, plus I think the added benifit is the color of them!!!! They are not real blue like XM 20k's and not white like 10k's but at the same time thay bring out red's yellow's blue's and green's as if there were actinics on my tank. I really dont think I am going to put my T-5 retro to supplement actinic on the tank.?!?!?!?! It just doesnt need them!!!!
My friend Finless has the 250 DE pheonix 14k and a T-5 actinic retro, and while he might get a tad bid more POP due to the actinic, I think mine looks more natural all the way around. (Hope he doesnt read this!!!!) I have been trying to get him to come over and give me his opinion, but have not succeeded yet. If he likes the Iwasaki's, then I am sure he will be putting his DE setup up for sale!!!! Unless you like the BLUE look that XM 20k's put out (cause I do know another fellow reefer that wont buy anything else), then as for as color I promise you wont be disapointed. The output of light is sure to grow some SPS as well. Besides the power bill wont break the bank compared to 250's either.

Hi,
I dont know much about ballasts. I have a coralife ballast, I think its a reg. tar ballast. Will these bulbs work on that ballast? Also how long are these bulbs? Thank you Frank

I run this light and I think it has the best coloration of any light out there regardless of wattage. Right now I am running it on a 46G BF. Soon I am going to upgrade to 90 and was really bummed to hear that the bulb is not made in a 250w version. I was thinking with the depth of the 90 I would definately have to step up to 250's for proper penitration. If these lights are putting out comparable PAR as a 250 I may just try and run 2 of them instead. I am just kinda on the fence because if they wont penitrate as well as the 250s, then I will be out a lot of cash for the inevitable upgrade.

tatoofr, As long as the ballast are M57 magnetic ballast I think you will be ok, just wont get quit the intensity as with electonic ones.
My sand is being nuked!!! Here is a pic of my ballast. They are ARO from Hellolights and look almost Identical to my old Icecaps...Same maker????

If you order from Hellolights, you can refer them to coralreefecosystems website and they will match their price. It will save a little cash.

i love them. my corals are growing much faster than they did under hamilton 250w 14000k's and xm 10000k 175's.

I know that Sanjay used to have the 6500k Iwasaki's on his 180 and he said that he only had to change them every 2 years. Is it the same with these bulbs?

I am also a hellolights.com customer. I purchased the bulbs from them for price matching and in stock bulbs. Like some others theses bulbs blow away all the others that I tried the only other one that may stand a chance may be the AB but heard about early burn out intensity.

Check out sanjays website and have a look at the par measurement. These bulbs have a higher PPFD than MOST 250's which in turn means they should penetrate as deep as 250's, so yes give these a try and you wont be disappointed!
