Moorish in a tight spot

Should I be worried about the servival of the Moorish? He was really jammed up and the clam had closed almost all the way.

Ouch. I hope he is alright.... clams can exert a lot of pressure so he may not be.

And why is his nose in the clam to begin with? Maybe the clam is teachin' him "no bite"? I hope he comes out of it ok. Keep us posted for sure ok?

Is it possible that the Idol wasn't getting proper nutrition (not necessarily your fault, since they tend to be pretty difficult to care for in the first place), went searching in the clam as a last resort for food?

Bummer dude. I can’t image that this would help his cause. Looks like a very pretty fish, I hope he didn't get hurt too bad...

Hope no one was too offended about my comment, but this is kind of the preverbal "hand in the cookie jar" view. Idol's are big sponge and Coraline eaters, but have been known to eat sessile inverts as well and clams are on that list. Hope all is well with this fish, it is a beauty............

Actually no, he has been a vigorous eater of just about anything I feed the tank. I do feed daily and of that 2 cubes of the sponge food for angels. He eats most of the 2 cubes himself. He even pulls it out of the mouth of the Foxface if he can. He eats nori, mysis, flake, and anything else that goes in the tank.He is very fat and I hope happy.

Thanks all, he did not eat much last night, just swam around, tonight he ate all he could get his mouth on. I have noticed he has stayed away from the clams tonight. My wife called and it took me 10-15 minutes to get home, she said he was like that for 5-10 minutes. So I am thinking less then a 1/2 hour.

And I too laughed when I saw it, then thought how do I save both, what do I use to open the clam, did it break his snout, what damage can be done, and do we have a vet for fish?

That's great news that he's eating. Hopefully that means no harm was done and maybe he'll think twice before sticking his nose near the clams again. How is the clam doing?
