using an ER SP3 pump as re-circ ??

I have been recently asking questions around here regarding converting my ER 6-2+ non-circ into a circulating skimmer.I was directed to check out the ASM skimmer website which I did and they made no mention of not being able to use your existing skimmer pump as your re-circulating pump when doing this mod.
But on the euro-reef site they sell kit which includes a new pump for a re-circulating skimmer.Yesterday I called chip with euro-reef and asked him this exact question and he said that I would have to buy this kit including this new pump in order to make my skimmer into a re-circulating skimmer.This kit is almost $300.So whats the real deal guys?Obviously I want to be able to use the pump that I already own.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
