Exclamation protein skimmer

So everyone thinks the coralife skimmer is junk? I don't have enough room in the wet dry to put a skimmer so I will have to hang it on the side. Does't the Octopus 110 have to go in the sump, and not hang on the side? Anyone have a used skimmer that they want to sell that would be good for this tank?
Thanks!!! Klauger@verizon.net

Try a D&D marine typhoon, it works well, is built like a tank and is cheap ($68 drfosters). For an HOB it is great!

The CSS is a good skimmer for the money and probably the best value HOB you will find.

I think the D&D marine typhoon is a good as the CSS, and a hell of a lot better built!

So I think that I narrowed it down to the typhoon hang on skimmer or the coralife skimmer. I think that the typhoon is the best price. AM i RIGHT? It's only $68.00, and it is rated for a 110 gallon aquarium. I don't have enough room under the stand to go with a coralife skimmer that is rated over 65 gallon.

I think that you will like the typhoon. Tell me how it works out!
(for $68 how can you beat it)

I've had coralife SS for 1+ year and it works fine and removes enough skimmate for my low bioload tank. The problems I have are: the air line needs to be cleaned every 1-2 months because of salt build up inside it, the seal sometimes isn't good and leaks behind the tank and it tends to get excited and overflow during water changes/ high water levels/ sliming inside tank. I'm used to it and have learned (the hard way) on how to deal with it.
That's my $.02!

The CSS is a significanly better skimmer, and is significanly cheaper than the AQUAC.

"3-1/4" dia x 22-1/2" high. Requires only 3-1/4" behind the aquarium for installation."

Smaller is not better in skimmers. The Typhoon is WAY too small to handle anything even close to 100g. I'd doubt it would even handle 50g with only a 3" diameter body. I got rid of a 5" bodied skimmer because it couldnt handle my 58g.

The CSS 65 has a 4" body, which is almost twice the volume of the typhoon.

My girlfriend has a typhoon at work... shes not impressed.

RichConley, I see you have a PC PS-3000 skimmer it is rated up to 400 gal. Do you think it would take care of 400 gal?
