Help with skimmer
hi i have a 17 gal custom tank with a 5.5 gal sump/ fuge at the back. I was concidering a protein skimmer, and i saw a berlin in tank skimmer, my question is should i go ahead and get it or should i aim for a sea clone 100 however those are rated for 100 gal. From what i have read the issue of overskimming is questionable. Some people say that overskimming is likellly to hapen which in turn leads to grave concequences . Could someone clarify this for me thanks in advance
The very fat pleco

I've never heard of anyone "overskimming" their tank. For a tank that small, you probably don't "need" one, but it's certainly not going to HURT the tank to have one. I use a Seaclone 150 on my 55g. It's rated for 150 but I wouldn't never use this skimmer on a 150 tank, not enough umph for a tank that large. In fact, most people don't have anyluck using a seaclone, there are some mods for them, but I've always been able to get mine to skim just fine though, it's a very touchy skimmer, you either get it just right or it ain't gunna do nothin'.
Personally, I'd get a small skimmer. If you plan to upgrade in the near future (a year or so) then get a larger skimmer. If you are 100% satisfied with the tank you have and plan to keep it going even if you upgrade to a larger tank later, then I think a Seaclone 100 would do just fine for ya. (No people, I'm not recommending a Seaclone, I'm just saying it will work, despite all the negative comments about them)

A Tunze 9200 skimmer might be best since it has a small footprint size.
