ID Please
I found this burried under the sand for a few months in a tank I rehabbed this year. Is this frogspawn or is it too early to tell. Torch maybe? Its sort of a bluish gray with lighter gray tips. The pcs I found have a strong will to live and have grown every day since I found it and put it into the light. Thanks in advance

well.. the stalk is from a candy cane.. but that is obviously not what is growing on it now.
I would say that they are frogspawn.. do you have any others in your tank? Nice find though =) |

Theres another pc that i found and its so much smaller, that I cannot get a decent pic of it. I do not know nor can I find out if there ever was some in the tank at any time. I also found another stalk like critter yesterday and it has the tiniest tiniest pink bubble head on it (which is eating). This one is way too small to get a pic of. This happened in another tank I rehabbed, all these critters started coming to life after about 3 months, and I had no idea any of it was in there. The only frogspawn Ive seen is green and purple, are there different colors or could this one just not be mature enough? on a funnier note: When I first discovered this little guy, my roomate said that it looked like candy coral stalks with ricordia growing out the top. lol. I knew this wasn't the case but thats the best way I can describe it.

Cool. I've always been afraid to get frogspawn b/c I managed to slay my $60.00 pc of hammer in a matter of days (which is only 1 of 3 corals I have ever lost). Frogspawn was too close of a cousin for me to try to brave that one. This pc is really doing well and am confident he will pull through.

Nykademus, I think thats it. The stalks are more similar than any hammer I've ever seen. Not ruling hammer out b/c it is still juvenille but the stalk looks less like a hammer coral stalk.

I had tried to look up pics of the names you left but could only find the first one. I do remember the dots on frogspawn looking like that now. Well, then this Hammer will be a nice addition to my collection. Thanks for your help

Euphyllia parancora AKA Branching Hammer Coral. it also has what looks like a Chaetopterid or Spionid worm living in one of the dead stalks.

I thought I had seen something in that pic but thought it was just trash or a tube worm. After your post, I investigated further. It is some sort of wormlike critter moves sort of like a tenticle and moves as if it has some sort of intelligence like it is feeling all over the stalk or searching for something (food).

It looks like branching hammer to me. Too early to tell though.
I took a piece of branching hammer that looked like that and now have a branching hammer coral with a total head size of about 12-14 inches in diameter. Its huge! Under proper care they will grow fast.
