Getting rid of Long Hair Algae & Bubble Algae?
My tank is about 7 mths old now and doing very well (I think) with the exception of Long Hair Algae I can't stand and noticing Bubble Algae in places now. I have a 125 gallon 6 ft tank with a 20 gal sump. I have a Lawnmower Blenny, snails, Hermits, Sand Sifting Starfish.
I have heard Emerald Mithrax Crab takes care of Bubble Algae but nervous they will harm my tiny Clownfish that sleeps on the sand. Also read Mexican Turbo Snails for Long Hair Algae, but "thought" I already have those and still have it. Any recommendations would be GREAT! Thanks~ Sheni |

I used to have a hayfield in my tank- Then I got a black longspine seaurchin. My hair algea was gone in 36 hours.
Btw: Black longspine's are supposedly the only "reef safe" urchins, they do however like to munch on coraline apparently if they can reach where its growing. IMO, buy one, have him mow down your hair algea, clean up after him and send him back to the lfs as a trade for something else Lawnmower blennies work well too, however they take much longer time. |

Yeah, I saw my Lawnmower munching on it, but would never be able to tell by looking that he had done anything, ha. Wouldn't my Purple Tang eat it also? Doesn't seem to.
I had a Long Spine Sea Urchin and didn't keep him because I heard they get so big and can mow over everything in the reef, sadly. I miss him though, was COOL!! And I didn't know he took care of that. Is a Cherub Angel reef safe? |

Keep in mind... You should also try to figure out the source of the excess nutrients which are causing the algae to grow in the first place. Check your feeding schedule, see if maybe something died and consider adding some macro algae to your system.
