Getting a free 120 need structural advice!
Hi all and thanks in advance!
Tomorrow I'm picking up a 120 free. but and there's always 1 of those, It's free because it split a seem. The glass is in good shape but the top frame for lack of better words is not 1 solid peace and the are no center braces.? Is there something I can do diy after resiliconing it to reinforce the framing? 1 note the glass looks to be 1/2" thick __________________

not the cheapest but I'd worry about a repeat of the failure! A good plastics place will have some folks who can do the math for the stress on the glass and make some acrilic to attach to the top and give you a decent brace and top band. 120 - is this the 6 foot long type ? if so it should have 2 braces on top as I recall - every 2 feet. sometimes folks do not know how much stress a 6 foot span of glass can have and cut the braces... and regret it later!

Eurobrace the top. I would do 3-4" around with a 4" center brace at the 2' mark.
Completely disassemble the tank. Clean all the edges and start over fresh. GE Silicone I Window and Door is the exact same silicone that you would buy from AGA, but at a fraction of the cost. |

Go to your LFS and have them order a new top. They can get the exact one for your tank.

Did you take it apart or just slap some silicone on it?
I really hope you didn't do that, New silicone will not bond to the old silicone. It might stick to it but it won't form a strong bond needed to keep water in the tank long term.

No I completely stripped the corner section down to bare glass inside and between the seam. Cleaned and then applied the silicone but as I said earlier this is just to learn on.
