Good Coral Books
I have had my FOWLR tank running for about 6 months now and purposely stocked it for conversion to reef.
I am preparing now to get my first corals in the spring (about 5 months!) I have researched lighting and will likely be getting a 5 bulb T5 fixture. I don't know much about corals, what type to get, how to feed them, how to propagate them, anything. So I wanted to get a good book instead of clogging the forums with my noob questions! What are the best books you can recommend to give me a good idea of the overall care and selection of corals? Thanks for the help |

I think Aquarium Corals, by E. Borneman, is the most useful book, and the only one I use much. I have the coral propagation book, and it's interesting for larger applications.
If you want to read some books on reef science, we can post some books for that, too.

For the scientific catagory, I really like "The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium" series....by Svein A Fossa and Alf Jacob Nilsen.
Bob Goemans pamphlets are good reading too. I have read most of the books available on reef tanks. The books were great before I had a computer, but I'm learning more about current issures here at RC. The hobby is moving at a fast pace and books get outdated very fast. Don't forget to get a healthy daily dose of Reef Central.

anything Julian Sprung. IMO, he is the master and leader and the others are the fallowers. he has been writing before i began reefing, 16+ years ago. he was my leadership into the reef. he just released another book about a year ago. he was also the creater/inventor of what we know as "nano tanks". he had a 10G when i first was introduced to his monthly flyers at my LFS 16+ yrs ago. i like b-man and calfo but they were introduced years after Sprung. Happy New Year and REEF-ON!
