question about this plumbing part
I've noticed most people with plumbing set-ups have this piece. (the one circled in red).
What is it? Why should I have it? and how will it make my life easier by plumbing it in? I'm just doing the planning for some plumbing and if it makes things easier for me I'm game for adding these to strategic locations. thanks for any info.

its a "union". turn off the pump, turn ball valve 1/4 turn to closed position, unscrew the union keeping the o-ring in place, and remove the pump for cleaning. when youre done cleaning, reverse the process. theyre also handy for connections that may need to be removed to replace an in-line item. have a safe and Happy New Year!
