Will my tank be a complete disaster if i don't do a sump for my 20 gallon high nano reef?
I can do the sump.......probably in 2 months. I can go with out the sump.............right now actually. Please weigh the pro's and cons! Thanks in advance guys, i always count on you to help me to the fullest! |

I run sumpless on my 20H. I do run a fuge (and it works AWSOME!!). Just keep up with your water changes. I do 2 gal a week and have no problems at all. Here is the latest pic of my tank....Its a work in progress...

Hey, I have a 40 w/o a sump. The key is to keep up on your weekly water changes. Especially in small tanks because when things go bad, they go bad fast.

No, most nano's don't have sumps. Sumps simply increase the water volume (for more bio-load) and allow for invisible plumbing. We hide our chemical and mechanical filtration, heaters, skimmers, pumps etc., sometimes have fuges in them, and do water changes down there so we don't have stuff hanging off the back of the tank. You don't have to have one.

And guys......it's pretty bad. I have about 25 pounds of liverock and a 4-5 inch bed of live sand. I can't even see my rock to aquascape, and it has not gotten any better since last night.

Are you saying you can't see the rock because of the sand storm? Might take a couple of days for it to clear. As the bacteria starts to develop it will help to weigh down the fine particulates.
