fan setup question
I have a 29g thats overheating thanks to my MH pendant. Though it does seem to retain a lot of this heat even overnight, and I tried turning down my heater too. I hear a lot about people setting up fans to blow across the top of the water. I looked at some computer fans yeseterday and I think I found one that might work but even if i rig it to plug into an outlet how do people mount it when they don't have canopys?
Alternatively, has anyone found a small clip on style fan that could simply mount on the side of the tank or something similar? Thanks!

I prefer clip on fans when there is no canopy. Just go to walmart and get one of those cheap 5 dollar clip on ones. Works for my 29 w/out a canopy On my 40 breeder i've got a bigger fan (only cuz thats what i had at the time) and it is pointing directly into my sump. Both do the same thing. Just dont point the fan directly at the light.

well I don't have a sump, but I just looked at a few clip-on ones online. it looks like they're designed to clip on the edge of a desk so I'm hoping they pivot enough to allow the clip to attach vertically and still point across the top of the water..if that makes sense
one kinda like this: http://www.epinions.com/Air_King_9145_Clip_on_Fan

Also to add-on it is a 250w MH but I also moved it up a few inches (I'd say its at least 10'' now but I'll have to measure) and it seemed to have no noticable effect. I don't get it. I don't remember having it heat up this much before but I havent had a thermometer in there for awhile since the temp was always pretty stable. Plus its not even summer! Would causing more agitation on the water surface help at all?
I found a fan I think will work but I'd really like to avoid sticking a big clunky clip-on fan on my tank.

I think the clip on may be your best bet. FYI, I added a computer fan to my canopy and it dropped the temp 10 degrees. I had to add another heater to stabalize the temps. Works great now.

That clip on will work great. Just point it across the waters surface and it will work fine. Just remember, the tank will evaporate more so top off is crucial.
