Sand Sifting Goby in quarantine (sand?)
As some may recall I recently posted a thread about learning a hard lesson on quarantining fish after loosing vertually all of my fish to parasites. I currently have my one remaining fish (blue damsel) and two new juvenile Clarkii clowns in quarantine. They have been in 1.009-1.010 (depending on time of day) for a little over a week now and are doing well. The main tank will be fishless for 5-6 weeks minimum before these enter to clear out any of the parasites.
My plans are to only put 2 fish through quarantine at a time, minimum of 4 weeks. My next fish I want to replace is a Diamond Goby and either a Firefish or Royal Gramma. My concerns are for the sand sifter in a bare bottom tank. Will he be okay in a tank without sand for a month or should I plan on putting in at least a little bit of a sand bed? |

I would give him a bit of sand, and some PVC pipe to hide in. You will need to trash the sand once ou are done with the Q time.

Could you put the sand in a little box so it's a little bit deeper for him without using a lot of sand?

Considering my previous diamond goby would burrow and spit sand everywhere I doubt it would remain in a sandbox for long. A shallow +1" bed of sand wouldn't be too difficult to get out if I had to run any medications in the tank other than hyposalinity I guess.
I am using the 24gal nano cube DX as my quarantine tank and it already had several pieces of PVC fittings in it now. The only one that currently seems to use it is the Damsel. Swims through them like a playground setup. |
