Question Filter sock?

I have been able to find out much about them, so I was wondering if any one could help explain them to me. I currently have bioballs in my wet/dry. Some people have a filter sock, some have LR, and some keep their bioballs. Im confused and not sure what to do.

All of the methods of filtration you mentioned work, in this hobby there are so many variations. A filter sock is nothing more than a filter pad that looks like a stocking. You can find different sizes & types of socks. I use 2 of them in my setup with no bio balls or live rock in my sump. The tank has enough live rock to make me happy. The thing with the socks is that you need to keep them clean or they can give you problems. I clean mine out once a week & the tank & everything in it is very happy.
