stirring substrate
Is it a bad idea to stir your substrate to help remove (bury) the algae growing on it?

I'll tag along on this one. I did it last night on my SSB while I diatom filtered the water with no ill effects. Tank looks great! But I would not think it would be a great idea if you have a DSB, but I could be wrong.

I also did it last night with a diatom and I have been doing it for over 40 years. Of course as was said, if you have a DSB you should not do it but any other type of substrait would benefit from occasional stirring.
