2 x Tunze 6060 vs. 4 maxi 1200s on reef fanatic wavmeaker

I have 4 maxi 1200s running on a reef fanatic wavemaker and am considering selling and changing to 2 Tunze 6060s.

I am making the move to SPS in my tank, and want to make sure I have the required flow.

Right now I have a ton of LPS and a few choice softies, if I get the magnet holders can I angle these so the flow won't rip the tank in directions I don't wan't it to?

Anyway opinions on which would be be better would be appreciated.

Thanks

I performed a MJ mod on my two MJ1200s, and I'm getting a TON more flow now. I utilized a mod popularized by my fellow reefer JMBoehling. It allows the MJ to stay oriented in its normal operating position, the impellor is replace with a propellor, and a new shroud is created out of PVC piping. Some of the benefits are ultra wide flow (dictated by how open the shroud is cut), low profile in the tank, and it can function in either direction (the normal MJ mod can only work with the magnet spinning in one direction).

Previously I had two MJ600 and two MJ1200. Now that I've modified the two MJ1200 I've taken one of the 600s out of the tank (its always nice to take equipment out, or at least make it look smaller).

I've never used any Tunze powerheads, though I hear they're great. Though keep the MJ-mod in the back of your mind, they're becoming increasingly popular as a very cost effective option (mind only cost me less than $10 each to modify since I made my own shroud).

Here is the link to Jim's step-by-step instructions:

That is a different mod, I hadn't seen.

I have another modded maxi and it broke like a week after I had it running. I am sure that mod works, but i am wondering about these 6060s.

They aren't controllable so I was wondering if that would be bad for the tank?

you can get the props at mjmods.com, Ive recently purchased a wavemaker and 3 maxijet powerheads, Im pretty impressed with it, I also got 2 powersweeps, and 2 return pumps, in a 75G reef it all moves the water around good.

Jim did a bulk buy from the internet (I don't know where), and I bought two from him. You can get them from MJ-mods.com as was mentioned, but you should also be able to get them locally from hobby supply shops (anyhwere thats sells remote control boat stuff). They should be in the range of just a few dollars each.

Maxi-mods aside, I am looking for opinions to see if I would be better off with two 6060s or the 4 maxi unmodded on a wavmaker????

Bought the Tunzes 6060's no comparison between those and mods. They are great.

Now I have a reef fanatic one mjmod, one jon mod, and on regular maxi 1200 w/ a 2 month old reef fanatic wavemaker for sale---$150 for the lot
