Question To Much Kalkwasser?

I have just mixed my first batch of Kalk. I was told that you could not add to much powder to you water because the water can only disolve so much. So I added about a cup or two to a ten gallon tank that I am using for my top off. Then like a typical guy I read the directions afterwards and they said that I should only had a tsp per gallon.

Is it true that I can still use this batch or do I need to make a new batch?

Please read this before you start dosing. Kalk can be very lethal if dosed incorrectly.

The limewater will have about 2 tsp per gallon dissolved. The rest will just sit at the bottom of the container until more fresh water is added. That article is very useful! If you drip the lime slowly enough, it'll be fine. Some pH tests will help you keep that under control.

I killed all my SPS once over dosing. I mix it with my auto top off water. I found out you can add too much if you're not contolling how much goes in. I found the right match for my system after it was too late. Now I had 1/2 tsp per 2 gallons.
But my system is different also because I use it in top off water.

Steve, My guess is that the problems were caused by adding the kalk too fast or because some of the undissolved kalk made its way into the tank, not because there was too much kalk mixed with the water. As Bertoni mentioned, only so much kalk will dissolve in the water. If you add too much, the rest sits at the bottom undissolved until you add more fresh water.

Smokie 1118, the batch of water should be fine to use, just don't add it too quickly and only add the clear part of the water to the tank. If you look up how Nilsen reactors work you'll see that they have large amounts of kalk powder added to them at infrequent intervals.
