sand siffting star fish vs. gobie
which one would work best to keep my subtrate clean?

i would say the gobie.. but you could try a coch they clean the substrate very nicely....

i agree a conch will be your best bet IMO.
a star fish will starve in your tank in time. and a goby will trow sand all over and dig under your rocks and unless you have a good rock structure it can topple. but in a 20 gal. take the snail either a conch or nass. |

Agreed, both your original choices will eat all the beneficial stuff in the sand, and eventually starve, unless the gobie will eat other food.
I would go with a conch and or a large nass. |
