What are you feeding your long-nosed hawkfish

Just curious. I feed mine freeze-dried krill. I break it into pieces so that he can fit them in his mouth. He eats right out of my hand. If I try tool fool him and hand him something else he won't even go for it. I think thats funny cause there is no way he can tell the differance unless he smells it. Cool fish.

When I kept a long nose I fed him mysis shrimp, pieces of various fish flesh (blue fish, silversides, mahi mahi), krill and frozen formula 1 and 2.

Krill alone is not a sufficient diet. If he refuses other foods don't feed him for a day or 2 and then he'll eat whatever you offer.

Is that frozen brine?

I give mine a pinch of brine shrimp a day which is unthawed from frozen brine bought at the LFS. I have a lot of pods and he searches the rock relentlessly so I know he eats pretty much all day. He also loves shredded up cocktail shrimp which I give once in awhile and dry fish food (I can’t remember the brand) which are very small pellets. Here is a picture of mine:

Do you find him to be as entusiastic an eater as mine, to the point that he will stick his nose out of the tank or search your fingers when you are just cleaning the tank?

Oh yes! He is quite a character. I hade a little problem with him getting so excited at feeding time he would jump right thru egg crate! He can’t now as he is a little larger but gave me a scare a few times. Believe it or not I got him at Petco. They had him in a large display tank for months and for some reason no one bought him. My wife fell in love with him and, you know, got to keep her interested so this is her fish!

If you click my red house above you can see a small video of him and my other fish.

Joshua1023 - I feed him live brine shrimp when I have them, but he eats frozen too.

I haven't had mine start coming out of the water for food, yet! haha He does seem to know when its feeding time though. Anytime the canopy door opens, he starts going nuts swimming up to the center of the tank.

Mine swims to the front of the tank every time someone gets close. He is a PIG and eats flakes, several types of frozen reef diet, frozen mysis.
