In-walls, Fish rooms, and PLC's, oh and all this while remodeling the whole house.
Well my wife and I bought a 1951 Ranch about 6 months ago. This house needed a lot of work, the only thing that was good was the mechanics and the structure. The kitchen was just about gone, all the floors were soaked in pee and the place stunk. I had 3 days from the time we closed to the day we started moving in stuff.
So in the first 3 days I ripped all the carpet up sanded all the floors and refinish them in the Master bedroom. With the master bedroom livable we moved in. In planning where the new kitchen would be we had a spot in the hallway about 2x3 feet just begging for an in-wall. With the wife’s ok I started the work. The whole time I spent between the kitchen/family room/hallway and working on the in-wall. I had a 58g Oceanic that my Porcupine Puffer and my Picasso trigger were in and way too big for. SO I decide my 30g tall reef would upgrade to the 58g and I would put the puffer and trigger temporally in my extra 75g. So I went to TSC (tractor supply) and got a 100g and 2 40g stock tanks. I setup all my tanks on one system in the basement where the future finished fish room would be. That is the start of the story, Now for some pictures.

Now you can see where the fish tank will be. The Kitchen and the family room had separate access to the hallway. With the new wall oven we want to close this spot up.
![]() Testing ![]() ![]() Now Time to make it strong. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Now time for the plywood.
![]() ![]() Now the old walls were 7/8 in thick. So if you take 2/8 off that it left me with 5/8 so I put up a vapor barrier and then I will cover it with 5/8 inch thick blue/green board Just a shot of a 1000w MH I got. ![]()

Looks good.... That 1,000 watt might produce alot of heat in a enclosed area. Also how deep is your 58gal? I run (6) 400watt 20K on my 36" deep 500gal. And can grow sps frags on the bottom.

I got my PLC done and my lighs are running, Water is in and I will add salt tonight (for my birthday) and go to savko sometime this week for my CL plumbing. I will set it up as a stand alone for now.
When I move the sand over I don't want to spike my system so I will run the tank on its own for now. Get the LR how I want it, make some new moon lights and so. So now for some pics... This is my junction box under the tank. ![]() Some of the plugs ![]() Light testing ![]() This is a 400w 5400 or 6700 just for a test ![]() Must love the Port Hole ![]() This is the brain,, he he ![]()

That is nice work. I need someone like you for my upcoming tank remodel project. I'm going to remodel a bathroom and laundry room to squeeze out a fish room and get all the pumps and sump crap out from under my 240 cube.

You do realize that you put on the Tyvek wrap upside down, don't you? Hope that doesn't come back to haunt you down the road
![]() Very nice work BTW - care to quote me a new kitchen job?

You know the funny thing is. When I was a kid I loved rc-cars (still do), not the ones from radio Shaq but the rc-10 rc-10t and so on. I would put the kits together in zero time then I would see how high, fast and how deep of mud I could run it in. I would always end up breaking the car, but then I would rebuild them better, lighter, faster and use stronger materials. So that I could do it all over again. Humm go figure.
