scrubbing rock?

Getting ready to buy my live rock for my new tank. I'm going with 29 lb cured Marshall Island. Do I need to scrub it before putting it in the tank and what about the arag-alive sand. I'm getting 20 lb of Fiji Pink. Do I need to wash it before putting it in the tank?

Just look at the rock and pick off any nasty looking sponges or whatnot. It you put it in a bucket of salt water and see hair algae or anything its fine to brush it off with a soft brush. I always smell it all over and if I smell something foul i will concentrate on that area. The sand in concept is "live" just follow the directions on the bag, which i believe is dump the whole mess in. I will admit though to pouring off the water in the bag prior to putting it in, but thats just how i keeps it real.

You can also have it fresh dip for a minute or two and all the bad sponges will died.
