Adding another skimmer
I have a AquaC EV120 on a 180g tank. I am thinking about adding another skimmer. I'm sure other aquarists run two or more skimmers, but I'm just wanting some feedback to see if its worth it.
Thanks |

Come on guys, does anyone run a system with more than one skimmer? Did it make a difference or not.

here is a thread that was started regarding skimmers etc.
http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...5&pagenumber=1 i used to run three skimmers: small needlewheel euroreef, med/small needlewheel euroreef and a big aerofoamer 830 beckett. i sort of had the er's dialed in to skim dry...wasnt intentional...just happen to set the riser tube that height... and the beckectt was set to skim somewhat wet. great results with water quality BUT...it meant that i had to clean three skimmer cups! that was the annoying part... now i just use my big beckett and skim really wet...2 gallons per day. there is still a noticeable tint to the skimmate but i would say shy of the 'coffee' color people like to brag about. i prefer wet skimmate because, in my mind, if i am skimming dry...i am most likely leaving something in the water. not too dark and not too light=just right!!!

I used 2 euro reef skimmers and for some reason 1 always worked better than the other so it was like only running 1 skimmer but paying the cost of running 2. I sold them both and got 1 good one.

I am thinking of doing the same thing, it is much cheaper to add a skimmer of smaller size than to toss the one you have and add a much bigger unit. I have read somewhere that is may be beneficial to have two different kinds of skimmers, exp. a tunze and an octopus, to get different kinds of contaminants removed.
