R. I. P. Hawkfish

So anyways. I come home and that ole devil of a hawkfish is not around like he usually is. Lo and behold the ole bastard decided to take a dirt nap. He went ahead and plunged to his doom. He didn't even leave a note. Thats right folks. If you got fish that like to jump around prob want to put some type of mesh or something on the top.

Do you guys think clowns or coral beuties like to jump out of the tank too? I dont see that type of behavior from them. I always knew that the hawkfish would one day jump out cause thats just how he ate and would perch on stuff high in the tank.

Farewell Hawkfish. You were stupider than you looked.

My tank was covered, except for a small slot on the side that I had left open for a light stand.

My old hawk still managed to find his way out of that small opening.

Sorry, I feel bad but your post was funny.

Sorry about your loss.

I've had my flame hawk for yrs with an open top, maybe tempting fate. Sometimes, we see her sit on the powerhead and stick her nose and or eyes out of the water (she look so goofy ) but she's not made any attempts to jump. She's the only fish with that behaviour.

I keep hearing about Egg Crates. I just walk into a grocery store and ask for an egg crate? Is it plastic? I always see the eggs in Square plastic boxes.. LOL maybe im just lost as hell. I still need my lights to shine through also.

a link to a pic or something of a solution will be great.

I have lost way to many to carpet surfing, especially wrasses. That's even with egg create on the tanks. They seem to find the smallest openings to jump through.
By the way, we have a fairly new club in Greensboro, if you're interested. PM for info.

You buy eggcrate at the hardware store, its found in the lighting cover sections (its a white plastic grid . . . and by the way, it does have two sides, on one side the slats are wider than the other).

we got our eggcrate - flourescent light fixture diffuser material at home depot....except we used it to set frags on. You'll need to cut it to fit the lip inside your tank. It lets light in, and usually keeps the fish in.

I lost my favorite fish ever (a flame hawk) due to jumping. I had it for 4 years, and when we found him behind the tank I think the whole family shed a tear. R.I.P Buddy.
