Mantis Lovers Beware Graphic Images Inside

A friend of mine just returned from China and took a picture of his dinner one night. Looks tasty to me.

He said they tasted wonderful.

Salty , Stabb, I will pass on you questions but I think they were cooked and he was not sure about what they were called in Chinese. He heard me talk about Mantis Shrimp before and that is why he took the picture to see if they were the same thing we see in the hobby and to answer his question I would say yes only bigger. He said they were about a foot long.

I had some in Peru that were a foot long but they looked like regular shrimp. Yummy!

Here is his reply

"I think it was boiled. Although, the first time I had it, it looked to be breaded and fried…but then again I drank quite a bit that evening and do not have a clear memory of much else.

I think that mantis shrimp may be the western name, I am sure that there is a Chinese name that means something completely different. Unfortunately, no one got photos of the name tag so I do not know what the literal Chinese name means.

In any event, it is some sort of specialty from the city of Ningbo.
