Tiger tail or black cuke question(s)
Will a tiger tail or black cucumber eat all of the good critters in my DSB? Also, will it wipe out my tank if it dies?
I am looking for a good creature for my sand bed. I have a spider conch, and an orange lip conch already but they don't really do all that much. I want to maintain the "liveness" of the sand. Any experiences welcome.

I just added a Tiger tail cuke to my tank as everybody who has them loves them and says they are great sand bed stirrers. Tiger Tails are one of the few cucumbers that won't nuke your tank upon being stressed or dying (at least that's what I've been told by several people on RC...one of the reasons I got one). I'd say go for the Tiger Tail!

I have a tiger tail, I think I'd prefer a black cuke. The tiger would spend all day curled up in the rock works and forages mostly at night. The black cuke I've seen seems to prefer staying out on the sand bed and churning sand in and out non stop like a conveyor belt.

Alrighty, thanks guys. I wonder if a black cuke would wipe out the tank in the event it dies or is attacked.

i have a black cuke that came along for the ride on one of my rocks, he stays in the rock, you only see his tail and "head" sticking out of two holes near eachother. i guess it is different for each animal, just like people with different personalities. mine has not left the rock yet...

cool, thanks muzz. Maybe I'll try this black cuke. He only has a 12" tiger tail anyway and that is WAY to big for me.

Hmmm.....this is a quote from Liveaquaria (F&S) regarding Tiger Tail cukes: Caution: Cucumbers must be maintained with peaceful tank mates to avoid potential accidents. Although this species does not have tubules of Culvier, if attacked by aggressive fish or injured by unsecured pump intakes, it will expel its internal organs, which may be toxic to fish.
Am I missing something??? I would like to get one.

I had a cuke, not sure of the kind.....multi gravel like colored, find his way into the powerhead and get chewed up. I mean, shreaded. Took several days to die, but never nuked anything.

In a book I have, it says the tiger will wonder about in search for food when it is younger.....as it gets older it will hide, only to come out at night to feed.
I would check into the medusa worm, that my favorite |
