High Salinity

Recently aquired a tank from a family member after a death. It doesn't look like it was kept up due to illness. There is a green slime on the sand and rock, not cyno but slimey goop. Anyway, the salinity level is 1031. How fast should I lower this? Any help would be welcome.

If theres no livestock then just lower it overnight. If the tank is stocked, you can take several days to lower it. and fwiw, cyno can be a green slimey goop too. Not saying that's what it is, but cyno takes many colors.
